Ernest Montoya Jr. passed away on January 31, 2026, in Westminster, Colorado. He was born in Gallup, New Mexico, to Ernest and Theresa Montoya and was raised in California, where he developed a strong sense of duty, resilience, and compassion that would guide him throughout his life.

In 1966, Ernest proudly enlisted in the United States Marine Corps. His years of service, including time connected to the Vietnam era, reflected his deep commitment to his country and to those who served alongside him. After completing his military service, Ernest dedicated his professional life to caring for others as a respiratory therapist. Over a remarkable 38-year career, he touched countless lives, concluding his work at Children’s Hospital, where his skill and kindness left a lasting impression on patients, families, and colleagues alike.

Ernest faced prostate cancer with courage and determination for 20 years, demonstrating the same strength and perseverance that defined his entire life.

He is lovingly remembered by his devoted wife, his two children, four grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and his sister. Ernest’s legacy is one of service, compassion, and unwavering love for his family.

Services will be held on February 20 at 2:30 p.m. at Ft. Logan National Cemetery, Staging Area White, where family and friends will gather to honor and celebrate his life.
