Lynwood Edward O'Leary
Jul 7, 1932 — Oct 14, 2026
Evergreen, CO - Longtime Evergreen, Colo., resident Lynwood "Bud" O'Leary died October 14, 2026, of cancer, at age 94, one year and five months after his wife, Elaine O'Leary passed away from a stroke, at age 87. Bud and Elaine were married for 66 years. They moved to the Greenwood subdivision in Evergreen from Northglenn, Colo., in 1972 with their five children. During his years in Evergreen, Bud was active in Christ the King Church and Blue Spruce Kiwanis.
Bud was born in Denver, July 7, 1932, to Marguerite O'Leary (nee Telgmann), an emigree from Kingston, Ont., and Lynwood Edgar O'Leary, a native of Luray, Va.
A graduate of Cathedral High School, Denver, Bud served in the Navy, earned an Electrical Engineering degree at the University of Colorado, and married Elaine on July 4, 1959. They briefly lived in Denver, Syracuse, N.Y., and Phoenix, Ariz., before settling in Northglenn, where Elaine gave birth to four boys and adopted one girl.
Bud is survived by: sister Jackie Schuster, Westminster, Colo.; sister Colleen Kenfield, Northglenn, Colo.; sister Marlene Clermonts, Northglenn, Colo.; son John O'Leary (Mary), Broomfield, Colo.; son Joseph O'Leary (Kathleen), Dumont, Colo.; son James O'Leary, Englewood, Colo.; daughter Cathleen O'Leary Sohlberg (Sten), Missoula, Mont.; son Jeffrey O'Leary (Jeanine), Centennial, Colo.; grandson Shannon O'Leary, Littleton, Colo.; granddaughter Annika Sohlberg, Seattle, Wash.; grandson Michael O'Leary, Ann Arbor, Mich.; grandson Olof Sohlberg, Missoula, Mont.; and grandson Matthew O'Leary, Boulder, Colo.
Bud had a well-honed ability to make you feel like you were the center of his world while he was talking to you, something that made him popular among the many neighbors, friends, and caregivers in his life. He was at his happiest when he was sharing with others his ongoing fascination with all things physics, economics, and AI. He strived constantly to emulate his father's generosity - the stuff of family legend - and passed this stubborn insistence on seeing the best in people and supporting them accordingly onto everyone he could. The amount of financial, material, and emotional support he provided his family over the years was immense. Many of us will find life a little less bright, a little less rich, and a little less cheerful after his passing.
Bud benefited greatly in the last few years from the kindness of his Greenwood neighbors in addition to all the volunteers with Seniors for Wellness who drove him to medical appointments and kept him company during his cancer treatments.
The family requests that, in lieu of flowers, donations be sent to Seniors4Wellness (mail address 3719 Evergreen Pkwy. Ste. A-160, Evergreen, CO 80439; or visit https://www.seniors4wellness.org/donate).
A funeral mass will be held at Christ the King Church in Evergreen on November 10, 2026 at 11:00 a.m. and interment at Mt. Olivet Cemetery.
