Suzanne Irene Huber Thompson

May 26, 1941 – June 12, 2026

Suzanne Irene Huber (affectionately known as Suzie to her family) was born on May 26, 1941 in Clinton, Iowa to Lyman (Pete) and Rubye Huber. Raised on a farm, she learned the values of hard work and sacrifice from an early age. She shared a special bond with her grandfather, from whom she inherited a lifelong love of playing cards and games.

Suzanne graduated from DeWitt Community High School in 1959 and went on to earn her bachelor's degree from the University of Northern Iowa in 1969, being the first in the family to earn a college degree. In 1967, she met Gary W. Thompson on a blind date—a meeting that would lead to their marriage in 1969 in Clinton, IA. They moved to Minneapolis where Suzanne taught elementary school.

In 1970, Gary announced their move from Minneapolis to Colorado, Suzanne was less than thrilled. The choice was blunt: Colorado or Texas, so the decision was already made. Initially settling in the city, the couple later moved into the foothills, a transition that tapped into Suzanne's long-held dream of living in the country. There, she fully embraced mountain life, forging deep, lasting friendships with her neighbors. She and Gary dove headfirst into the Colorado lifestyle, becoming avid bicyclists and skiers. When they weren't exploring the mountains, they were traveling the world.

She held many roles throughout her life, both professionally and personally. In addition to raising her children, she worked as an elementary school teacher, an accountant, and as a receptionist for both a church and a dance school. Her interests were as wide-ranging as her talents—she loved to travel, ski, ride her bike, play cards and host memorable dinner parties. She was a proud and active member of the Over the Hill Ski Gang at Copper Mountain, where she formed deep friendships and unforgettable memories. She was also a devoted member of her church and the National Episcopal Church, Suzanne served faithfully on the altar guild at St. John Chrysostom Episcopal Church for many years.

Suzanne never met a stranger—only friends she hadn’t made yet. Her warmth and generosity of spirit connected her to people all over the world, and she cherished those relationships deeply. Strong, confident, and quick to laugh, Suzanne had a wonderful sense of humor and never shied away from speaking her mind. Suzanne was a shining example of kindness, strength, and compassion. She had a special talent for bringing people together and enriching the lives of those around her. She will be missed immensely by her family and friends.

She is survived by her daughters, Anne Marie Thompson (partner Tony Thomas) and Lisa Smith (husband Richard Smith); her three beloved granddaughters, Tamara, Raelyn, and Tenley; her sisters, Nancy and Deliah; her brother Danny (wife Sandy) and her cherished nephews and their children.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Gary Thompson; her brothers-in-law, Charles Levsen and Darryl Blinkinsop; and her nephew, Rick Levsen. A celebration of life will be held at St. John Chrysostom Episcopal Church, 13151 W 28th Ave, Golden, CO 80401, on August 8, 2026 at 10 am. A reception with light refreshments will follow. All who knew and loved Suzanne are welcome to attend, celebrate her life, and share memories.

Her life was a blessing, our memory of her a treasure. She was loved beyond words and will be missed beyond measure
