Alice Jean Hogan
Sep 20, 1948 — Apr 12, 2026
Alice Jean Hogan, a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend, passed away peacefully on April 12, 2026, surrounded by the love of the family she cherished.
Alice was born on September 20, 1948, to Bennie and Hazel Smith. She grew up with her brother and sister in a home where family, faith, music, and church were important parts of everyday life. As the daughter of a Baptist preacher, Alice developed a strong and enduring Christian faith that remained an important part of who she was throughout her life.
Music was another thread woven throughout Alice's life. She loved music and especially loved playing the piano. During her junior high and high school years in Muskogee, Oklahoma, she and her best friend, Sharon, took piano lessons from the same teacher and performed piano duets at their recitals. They also sang duets in church and shared piano duties for Sunday school classes.
Those years were filled with music, church, friendship, and plenty of teenage mischief. Alice and Sharon were nearly inseparable. They passed notes and talked during church services, spent nights together making fudge and brownies—often eating them straight from the pan when the recipes didn't quite turn out—and even made prank phone calls from the phone book, back when there was no caller ID. Alice's sweet spirit, her Christian influence, and especially her wonderful, unmistakable laugh left a lasting impression on so many.
Alice's own great love story began while she was attending college in Brownwood, Texas, where she met Mike at a local swimming pool. Mike soon found creative ways to see her, including borrowing a horse from his grandparents' ranch and riding it to Alice's college dormitory to visit her.
When Mike enlisted in the Army and was sent away for training, their relationship continued to grow. On Parents' Day, Mike's parents picked Alice up and brought her to visit him. Determined to ask Alice's father for her hand in marriage, Mike encouraged his fellow soldiers to avoid demerits so that he could earn phone privileges. He then used those privileges to call Alice's father and ask for his daughter's hand in marriage.
Alice and Mike were married in Biloxi, Mississippi, on December 2, 1967. What began with a chance meeting at a swimming pool became a marriage of nearly 59 years, a lifetime of love and memories, and a family that grew to include their daughter, Kimberly, two grandchildren, and five great-grandchildren.
Alice was a thoughtful and caring person who never forgot the people she loved. She never forgot a birthday always sent sweet cards and well wishes. When family members faced difficult times, she was there to provide support.
To those who knew her, Alice was known for her kindness, her sweet spirit, her faith, her love of music, and her wonderful laugh. She was a woman who cared deeply for the people in her life and who made lasting impressions through the simple, meaningful ways she loved and supported them.
Alice leaves behind her husband, Mike; her daughter, Kimberly; two grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; her brother and sister; a niece and nephew; and many family members and friends whose lives were made richer by knowing and loving her.
Alice's life was built around the things she held most dear: her faith, her family, her music, her friendships, and the love she shared with Mike for nearly six decades. Her family will carry those memories—and the love she gave so freely—with them always.
She will be deeply missed, lovingly remembered, and forever cherished until the day we meet again.
