James Francis McCall

James Francis McCall, affectionately known as Jim, passed away peacefully on June 2, 2026, at the age of 77, surrounded by loved ones.

Jim was born on September 23, 1948, in Elkhart, Kansas, and was raised in Ulysses, Kansas, a community that remained close to his heart throughout his life.

Jim attended Fort Hays State University before beginning a career in the savings and loan industry in Liberal, Kansas. He later entered the oil and gas industry and returned to his hometown of Ulysses. A hardworking entrepreneur, Jim went on to own and operate a fluid-hauling trucking business for many years until his retirement.

Jim was well known and deeply respected within the recovery community, where he touched countless lives through his encouragement, compassion, and willingness to help others. His kindness, wisdom, and steady support left a lasting impact on many people.

Jim enjoyed golf, fly fishing, and spending time with friends. He also loved horses and spent many years involved in horse racing, a passion that brought him great joy and many cherished memories.

In his final hours, Jim was surrounded by family who were able to pray with him, share their love, and say their goodbyes. His loved ones find comfort in knowing that he passed peacefully and knew how deeply he was loved.

Jim is survived by his beloved wife, Shannon Hartman; his stepchildren, Heidi Hartman and Chris Hartman; his cherished grandchildren, Luke and Charley; his brother, Bill McCall; his nephew, William McCall; and many dear friends whose lives were touched by his generosity, friendship, and support.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Hubert and Martha McCall, and his brother, Jeff McCall.

The family extends heartfelt gratitude to the doctors, nurses, caregivers, and friends who offered compassion, prayers, and support during Jim’s final days.

A celebration of Jim’s life will be announced at a later date.
