Shirley J. Wood

Aug 3, 1931 — Jun 24, 2026

On June 24, 2026, devoted wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother and great-great grandmother “graduated” to heaven to be with her Savior, Jesus and her beloved husband, Charlie Wood.

Shirley was born on August 3,1931 in Palestine, TX to Andrew Clyde and Mary Lou (Denson) Miller.

As a child, Shirley moved to Brownfield, TX and graduated from Brownfield High School in 1948. She met the love of her life, Charlie Wood at a skating rink in Brownfield in 1950. They married in Brownfield on January 20, 1951.

While Charlie served in the US Army during the Korean War, Shirley lived with her parents in Brownfield for fourteen months. She worked at the local bank in Brownfield as a bookkeeper. When Charlie returned, they moved to Albuquerque, NM for Charlie to continue employment with Furr’s Supermarkets. Daughter, Margie and son, Gary were born during this time.

After four years, Charlie was offered a promotion to move to Denver, CO as a supervisor. Daughter, Carla, was born a few years later in Denver.

Shirley spent years raising her children and taking them to church to learn about the Lord. She enjoyed Ladies groups and Bible Studies at her church. Over the years she worked at Current; McGraw Hill; Otero Savings and Focus on the Family. In 1993 she retired to join Charlie roasting chiles and selling birdhouses/woodworking at local Farmers Markets and Flea Markets.

In 1999, Shirley and Charlie joined MAPS RVs through their Assemblies of God Church. For three years they traveled in their motor home to TX, FL, AZ, TN and CO to assist with various projects and remodels of small churches and organizations such as Teen Challenge. Shirley assisted with preparing meals for the volunteers, helped with bookkeeping, and other needs. It was a delightful experience for Shirley and Charlie to work with Christian volunteers that became good friends through the years.

Shirley and Charlie retired from traveling in 2002 and purchased a patio home in Colorado Springs. Shirley served as treasurer for their HOA for a number of years working diligently to find the best prices for home insurance and other needs of the homeowners.

In 2016, Shirley and Charlie moved to a townhouse in Gleneagle with their daughter, Margie. Shirley continued to be active in her church and kept close touch with friends through phone calls/greeting cards and e-mails.

Shirley’s heart was broken when Charlie “graduated” to heaven on November 16, 2018 after 68 years of marriage. She continued to attend church and read her Bible to find comfort from the Lord.

Shirley is survived by her devoted children, daughter – Margie Wood; Son & Daughter-in-law Gary and Cyndy Wood all of Colorado Springs, CO; Daughter and Son-in-law – Carla and Ryan Wentzel of Allegan, MI.
