Elinor Irene Garrett
Jul 11, 1932 — Jun 25, 2026
Elinor Day Garrett was born Elinor Irene Bronson on July 11, 1932 in Rocky Ford, Colorado to Robert and Ruth (Baker) Bronson.
Elinor Day Garrett passed away at home on June 25, 2026, in Englewood, Colorado. She went peacefully in her sleep, still living independently in her apartment at the age of 93. Her prayers came true as she was not ill, nor in pain, and had always prayed that God would take her in her sleep. Over the past year, she said she was ready for the good Lord to take her to heaven, to join those who had gone before her.
Elinor was raised in Southern Colorado. She started kindergarten after just turning 4 in July so that there were enough kids in rural Colorado to make a class. She graduated from Centennial High School in Pueblo, Colorado in 1949. Elinor retired in the early 1990s and moved to Arizona.
Elinor and Loyd Day married in 1950 and lived a family centered, small town life, in Fowler, Colorado with Jim and Jeanne for almost 20 years. Elinor loved to jitterbug, square dancing above the Post Office in Fowler and keeping a beautiful garden
Elinor was a very dedicated Mom, Grandma, and Great Grandma, who always put her children first and made them feel loved every day of their lives.
Elinor enjoyed life with Dewey Houston for over 30 years, spending most of that time traveling the country in their motor home. She loved having her grandkids go with them; hiking, fishing, biking, loving the outdoor life. Her choice for her 80th birthday, was an open cockpit aerobatic airplane ride -- she was a firm believer that God chooses when you go.
Elinor was preceded in death by her older brother Richard Bronson, first husband Loyd Day; husband Charlie Garret, and by her husband Dewey Houston in 2025. She is survived by her son Jim (Debbie) Day, daughter Jeanne (Don) Morrow, her brother Robert Bronson and sister Beverly (Richard) Buck. She has 3 grandkids: Darrin Day, Kristin Day, and Michael Perillo, and 3 great grandkids; Adalynn and Allison Perillo, and Marisol Day. A personalized calendar, created by Jeanne with all of the kids as the stars, was Elinor’s favorite Christmas present.
Elinor loved keeping up with her many friends and family, sending birthday cards and Christmas cards to all for many, many years. At 93, she was still using her laptop computer to get on Facebook and play games.
The life Elinor lived was full of friends, family and travel. Her happy life spread to those around her. She will be remembered fondly for her selfless and loving way of life.
