Anthony Carmine Zangari

Aug 27, 1936 — Sep 20, 2026

Anthony “Tony “ Zangari, 90, of Denver, CO, passed away peacefully on September 20, 2026 after courageously battling Parkinson’s disease. He was surrounded by his close family until the end.

Tony was born on August 27, 1936, in Denver, Colorado, and was the firstborn to Carmine and Catherine Zangari. He graduated from North High School in 1954, then went to serve his country as a Corporal in the United States Marine Corps. While on leave from serving in Japan, he began dating his future wife, Kathryn Ann Nazarenus. They were engaged for two years and married on June 14, 1959. Together they built a loving marriage of 67 years and had 3 adoring children together, Tony Jr., (Sandi), Roxanne, and Terry (Donnie).

Tony’s strong family roots kept him close to North Denver, where he worked multiple jobs, including Karmen Western Wear, Inc. and Martin Marietta. At Martin Marietta, he was employed as a welder, where he would solder the wiring connections used on military rockets. It was in May 1963 when Tony landed a position with the City and County of Denver in the sanitation department. He started out as a laborer, was promoted to a truck driver position, and then became a supervisor of the Transfer Station. Tony was known as a fair leader, and his employees praised him for never judging people by the color of their skin. He was extremely loyal and had a lengthy 36-year career until his retirement in 1998.

Retirement led to many travels and adventures with his wife, children, and friends. He enjoyed RV camping and visited all 50 US states. He never passed a lake or stream he didn’t want to fish, as he enjoyed the calm of the water. He had multiple hobbies, including fixing up old cars and woodworking. Tony’s garage was always open; it brought people together, whether to do an oil change, brake job, or to create a keepsake. He was a man of few words, but his conversations were intentional, and they left a lasting impression.

Above all else, Tony’s greatest pride and joy was his family. He was a devoted husband, son, brother, father, uncle, and doting papa to seven beloved grandchildren: Samantha, Brandon, Topher, Kaylee, Taylor, Tyler, Jaelyn, and his three great-grandchildren, Layla, Callie, and Ezekiel. They brought endless joy and happiness to his life, and he cherished every moment spent with them.

He is preceded in death by his father, Carmine, and mother, Catherine. He is tenderly survived by his wife Kathryn, his brothers Joe and Rob, his children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nephews, his special niece, Kathy, countless friends, and all those who loved and cherished him throughout his long and beautiful life.

Physicists know that energy cannot be created or destroyed, and this remains true with Tony. We know he will continue to exist through all the lives he touched and the things he created. We know he will be watching Bronco’s games on Sundays, completing his crosswords over breakfast, and fishing for golden bass on a calm lake in Walden. He will be forever remembered, deeply missed, and always in our hearts.
