Dale "Roy" Hurley

Aug 5, 1951 — Aug 15, 2026

Dale "Roy" Hurley, 75, of Wheat Ridge, Colorado, passed away peacefully on August 15, 2026, at his home, with his family at his side. He was born in Denver, Colorado, on August 5, 1951, to Maxine and Russell Hurley.

Roy graduated from Jefferson High School, class of 1969. He was drafted into the U.S. Army and served as a combat engineer in Vietnam from 1970 to 1971, building firebases and sweeping mines.

Roy worked at Lutheran Medical Center as the lead radiology transport for 45 years until his retirement. It was there that he met his wife of 46 years.

Roy loved fishing, camping, and spending time with his family, friends, and dogs. He cherished his time coaching his two sons' baseball teams.

Roy is survived by his wife, Brenda; his children, Michael (Ashley) and Russell (Ashley); grandson, Ryker; siblings, Jim (Lucille) and Anita (Scott); nephew, Sean (Gianne); and brother-in-law, Jack. He was preceded in death by his parents, Maxine and Russell, and his brother, Michael.

Roy always had the best "one that got away" fish stories, as well as stories about the "big ones" that didn't get away. He was always just as excited for everyone else's successful catches and proudly displayed their pictures on his "shelf of fish fame."

Roy will be remembered for his kindness and compassion toward his patients, who often recognized him in public long after his retirement. He was instrumental in uniting hospital employees from every department for social activities, including softball for 25 years and bowling for 10 years, making it his personal goal to ensure everyone had a great time. His laughter, wisdom, and unwavering generosity were gifts to all who knew him.

Friends and family are invited to Fort Logan National Cemetery for a Memorial Service with full honors on September 4th at 10:00 am. Please meet at Staging Area Red by 9:45am.  A Celebration of Life is planned for a later date to be determined.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital and Disabled American Veterans (DAV).
Thank you
Brenda Hurley
