Ronald Norman Eakin

Mar 20, 1941 — Jul 14, 2026

Ronald Norman Eakin, 85, of Eugene, Oregon, passed away peacefully at home, surrounded by his family, on July 14, 2026.

Ron was born in Hood River, Oregon, in the spring of 1941 to Emmit Eakin and Pearl Adams Eakin. He was raised in the Pacific Northwest, spending his high school years in The Dalles, Oregon. He graduated from the University of Oregon in 1966 as a member of Kappa Sigma.

Ron built a distinguished career in the construction industry, working both in the field with a hammer and in project administration for large-scale construction projects. He was a respected member of Construction Specifications Institute (CSI), where he received recognition for developing training programs that he presented across the United States—from Florida to Utqiaġvik (formerly Barrow), Alaska—sharing his knowledge and expertise with colleagues in the construction industry.

Throughout his life, Ron found joy in the outdoors. He loved camping, canoeing, and fishing, especially when those adventures included family. In his later years, he continued exploring Oregon's backcountry, often spending long days driving remote logging roads simply to enjoy the beauty and solitude of the landscape.

More than anything, Ron will be remembered for his kindness, generosity, and unconditional love for those around him. His quiet strength, patience, and genuine regard for others touched countless lives and remains his greatest legacy.

Ron is survived by his children, Eric Eakin (Ree Alonso-Eakin), Ettina Eakin Hansen (Sten Hansen), and Ena Eakin Rierson (Julie Rierson); his former wife, Betty Bissell; and seven beloved grandchildren (Kye, Chynna, Alina, Ociana, Sterling, Aidan and Lily). He treasured time with his grandchildren, teaching some of them to drive (cars, lawnmowers and tractors!) and spending time with them outdoors; camping and fishing. He is also survived by a nephew Fred Eakin, and many lifelong friends who will miss him dearly (Margo, Jim, Corrine, Maynard and Jackie).

In accordance with Ron's wishes, there will be no formal service. In lieu of flowers, the family invites those who knew him to share memories in the online guestbook. A Family gathering will take place Spring of 2027 at Idlewilde Cemetery in Hood River, Oregon.
