Donald William Spink

October 20, 1941 — May 25, 2026

Donald “Don” William Spink, 84, of Jupiter, Florida, passed away peacefully at home on May 25, 2026. He was a cherished husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend, and his presence will be deeply missed.

Don was born on October 20, 1941 in Bridgeport, Connecticut before moving to Florida a few years later. Don spent his childhood years in Melbourne Beach, attending Holy Trinity Episcopal Church and graduating from Melbourne High School in 1960. Don earned his Bachelor of Science degree in Business Administration from Florida State University in 1964. He was a lifelong ‘Noles fan and loved to watch the Seminoles right up until his passing.

Don spent his entire career in the insurance industry, beginning at The Hartford in Orlando, Florida upon graduation, where he worked as a property and casualty underwriter. Don met Lynn, his wife of 58 years, in Orlando. They were married at Holy Trinity on October 14, 1967. Early in their marriage, Don received a promotion to supervise the underwriting department at The Harford’s Detroit, Michigan office in 1969. One year later, Don and Lynn had their first child, Carole, while residing in Troy, Michigan.

While in Michigan, Don earned his certification as a Chartered Property Casualty Underwriter (CPCU), where he was very active in the organization, serving as a president of the Western Michigan Chapter. During this time, Don was promoted as the underwriting manager of The Hartford’s Grand Rapids, Michigan office. There, Don and Lynn had their second child, Mark, in 1975. Don continued to work as a surplus lines broker in the Grand Rapids area until 1986, when Don and the family moved to Orlando, Florida.

Eventually, Don’s career took him to South Florida, where he established his company Blue Water Insurance, a yacht insurance agency in 1996. Don’s son Mark works for the company still today. Don continued to work part-time for Blue Water until his illness prevented him from continuing.

Don’s passions were the Florida State Seminoles, golf and genealogy. He thoroughly enjoyed researching the historical lines of his family and his wife’s. This included his Scottish heritage, and during his second time in Orlando, he was a member of the St. Andrews Society of Central Florida.

Don is survived by his wife, Lynn, of Jupiter, Florida; his daughter, Carole, of Orlando, Florida; his son Mark (Liberty) of Jupiter, Florida; his grandchildren Miles and Lana; and his sister Judy Donaldson of Orlando, Florida. He was preceded in death by his mother, Elsie Spink Swentzel and his father, Robert F. Spink.

Services will be held on June 2, at Holy Trinity Episcopal Church in Melbourne, Florida.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in Don’s memory to the American Diabetes Association.
