Susan Linda Lachapelle
May 20, 1959 — Jul 30, 2026
Susan Linda Lachapelle passed away on July 30, 2026, in Palm Bay, Florida. She died peacefully at the Williams Childs Hospice House, listening to Christian music and praying with her sisters Lori and Nancy. The cause of Susan’s death was due to complications from seizures arising after a long string of other medical illnesses. She was 67 years old at the time of her passing.
Susan was born in Newport, Rhode Island on May 20, 1959. She was the third child born to Manuel Louis and Nancy Rose Braga. She had one brother, Stephen Louis Braga, and two sisters, Nancy Lee Davis and Lori Ann Braga, all of whom adored her.
Susan attended Carey Elementary, Thompson Middle School, and Rogers High School in Newport. Susan held various jobs in and around Newport. She was particularly skilled at jobs caring for others, such as working in a nursing home. She had a passion for helping others, which she carried throughout her life.
On February 14, 1981, Susan married her Valentine, Gerard Lachapelle. Gerry grew up in nearby New Bedford, Massachusetts, and the two of them shared a passion for “all things New England” throughout their lives. No Patriots football or Red Sox baseball game went unwatched; no bowl of clam “chowda” went uneaten.
After a brief stint in the Coast Guard, Gerry pursued a career driving long-haul tractor-trailer trucks. Susan would often go with him while he completed his work assignments. They loved traveling the open road together, seeing the country, and meeting new people everywhere.
Several years later, Gerry downshifted his career to local truck driving. He and Susan then settled in West Melbourne, Florida, where she could be close to her parents and sisters. They were both stewards of God and became involved in Harbor City Baptist Church, actively participating in programs to help others in need.
Unfortunately, as the years went on, Susan and Gerry were afflicted with serious medical challenges. Gerry struggled with and succumbed to lung and brain cancer. Susan struggled with brain surgeries, throat cancer, and seizure disorders. Over the years, they fought their health battles together. They were shining examples of living out their marital vows “in sickness and in health.” Through it all, Susan and Gerry never lost faith in their Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.
During her final days, Susan’s wish was to reunite with her Valentine Gerry in heaven. Her family takes comfort knowing that her wish was fulfilled. The loving family members Susan leaves behind are: her mother, Nancy Braga; her siblings, Stephen Braga (Wife- Kathleen), Nancy Davis and Lori Braga; her nieces and nephews, Jennifer Steele (Husband-Andy), Jeremy Davis, Jason Braga, Kelly Krieger (Husband-Paul), David Braga (Wife-Michelle), Jeffrey Braga and Cierra Braga; her grand cousins, Avery Steele, Ashleigh Steele, Jackson Steele, Haley Krieger, Emma Krieger, Wesley Krieger, Evie Galaviz, Avery Hoffman, and Milo Braga; her Aunt Judith Phelps and her cousins Donna Golden and Eric Gilfand, along with her loving cats who kept her company in life (Chuckie, Jingles, Cheeto, and Oreo).
A Memorial Service will be held on Wednesday, August 19, 026, from 5:00 P.M. to 7:00 P.M. at Ammen Family Cremation and Funeral Care, 950 Malabar Rd. SE, Palm Bay, Florida.
