Curtis Lee Schmader

Curtis Lee Schmader, 35, of Palm Bay, Florida, passed away unexpectedly on September 6, 2026. Curtis was born on February 27, 1991, and raised in Oil City, Pennsylvania. He graduated from Oil City High School in 2009 and went on to spend years traveling the world through his work, experiencing different places, cultures, and ways of life along the way.

But the places Curtis went and the work he did were only a small part of his story. The best way to know Curtis was simply to know how he made people feel.

Curtis was the guy you called when you needed a favor, a laugh, or someone you knew would show up. He had the best hugs and a way of making the people around him feel genuinely loved. He was generous to his core, the kind of person who would give you the shirt off his back without thinking twice about it. He was stubborn, marched to the beat of his own drum, and was unapologetically himself. What you saw was what you got with Curtis, and the people who loved him wouldn’t have wanted him any other way.

Curtis was a people person through and through. He was happiest surrounded by others, whether he was spending time with family, catching up with friends, or simply enjoying the company of whoever happened to be around. He loved being social, sharing a laugh, and making connections wherever life took him. Over the years, Curtis collected not only experiences from all over the world, but countless friendships along the way.

He loved watching his Pittsburgh Steelers with family and spending time with his best buddy, his dog, Carl. Above all, Curtis valued his people. Whether someone needed help, company, a good laugh, or one of those hugs, Curtis was there.

He is survived by his girlfriend, Chaice Philpott of Palm Bay, Florida; his mother and stepfather, Patty and Denny Martin of Malabar, Florida; his father, Jack Schmader of Oil City; his brother, Calvin Schmader and his wife, Mariah, of Oil City; his brother, Kyle Martin and his wife, Katie, and their sons, Jameson and Sawyer, of Treasure Lake; his niece, Lydia Clark-Martin; his grandmother, Patricia Fedorek of Oil City; numerous aunts, uncles, and cousins; and countless friends who loved him like family.

Curtis’s life was far too short, but the love he gave so freely will remain with the people fortunate enough to have known him. He will be remembered for his generosity, his humor, his hugs, and, most of all, for always being there.

In true Curtis fashion, his family invites those who knew and loved him to come as you are and join them in celebrating his life on Saturday, September 12, 2026, from 1-5 pm at the MAC Center, 228 Seneca St., Oil City, PA. There is no need for formality; just come ready to remember Curt, share a story, laugh, and celebrate a man who wanted nothing more than for the people around him to be happy. A celebration of life for his loved ones in Florida will be announced at a later date.
