Randy Alan Dalzell

Aug 23, 1953 — Mar 30, 2026

Randy Alan Dalzell, Sr. passed away at age 72 after a valiant 5-year battle against cancer on March 30, 2026. He was born in Hartford, Connecticut on August 23, 1953, but having grown up in Florida since infancy makes him as much a true Florida boy as any native! His parents were Bill and Ann Dalzell of West Melbourne, where he grew up with his brother, Billy. He played Little League baseball and football and became an avid surfer.

He moved to West Palm Beach to help build high-rise buildings at age 19. He then built scaffolding for the welders and shipbuilders in Mobile, Alabama, before returning to Melbourne as a skilled carpenter. His natural leadership and business savvy led to the founding of Superior Foundations, Inc. in 1984. He grew that small forming crew into a full-service concrete contractor and quickly earned a reputation for quality and integrity and became very successful. He liked to say that he “poured more concrete than you’ve walked on.” So many homes and buildings were built on Superior Foundations.

His son, Wyatt, took over the business in 2023 and has continued to build on that legacy with Superior Concrete of Brevard, Inc.

Whether Randy was the boss, the customer or the contractor, he was beloved by all. His guys loved him and many stayed on the crew for several years. The builders, homeowners, other subcontractors, concrete delivery drivers all loved him. He was just such a likeable guy. Everyone wanted to be his friend. Friend to many, it was his lifelong buddies he held close and truly loved and treasured and really enjoyed keeping in touch with.

He was a true Florida sportsman! An avid and skilled angler whether it was freshwater fishing for monster bass in Lake Toho or specks in the St. Johns River or cruising the Indian River Lagoon for tripletail, redfish and snook or heading out the Sebastian Inlet to fish the ocean, Randy loved it! He owned several boats and airboats over the years so he could thoroughly enjoy his passion and explore the marsh and waterways he called home. He treasured the adventures he shared on the water with friends and family. And gators. He was an expert marksman and loved hunting in the Florida woods and marshes bagging many trophy deer, turkey and wild boar over the years.

He was a faithful Miami Dolphins fan and never wavered in his support and optimism for his team over the years. He knew players, statistics, and offseason activity. He also followed the University of Florida Gators and NASCAR driver Mark Martin (back in the day).

Randy was well known for his silly, wry sense of humor and was always so quick-witted. The #1 teller of Dad jokes! He also had many, many funny sayings that would often surprise and always leave you laughing.

Randy worked hard, played hard, loved hard. He loved his family more than anything and was a devoted, loving husband and fantastic father who loved spending time with his children! He deeply loved and is survived by his loving wife of 45 years, Vicki (Elkins) Dalzell, sons, Randy II, Jason, Ryan and Wyatt, and his precious only daughter, Lara (Gianella). He genuinely loved his only son-in-law, Chris, as if he were his son and treasured their many fishing adventures. He also cherished and adored his 7 grandchildren (Adrianna, Katlyn, Waylon, Brad, Brandon, Owen and Harrison) and all his granddogs. He was just so proud and loved to talk about them all.

He was predeceased by his parents, Bill and Ann Dalzell, and his brother, Billy Dalzell. He had a rather large extended family, with 8 aunts and uncles and so many cousins, mostly from the New England area. He had many fond memories of summers spent at the family farm in New Hampshire hanging out with his cousins or visiting when they came to Florida.

There will be a viewing and service at Ammen Family Funeral Home, 1001 S. Hickory Street, Melbourne, on Friday, April 17. The viewing is at 3:00pm and the funeral service will begin at 4:00pm.
