Daniel L. Campbell Jr.

Mar 18, 1945 — Oct 15, 2026

Daniel Lewis Campbell Jr., 81, of St. Petersburg, Florida, passed away on October 15, 2026, leaving behind a legacy of love, integrity, kindness, and unwavering devotion to his family.

Born in Fort Lauderdale, Florida, Dan spent much of his life in St. Petersburg, although his military service and love of travel took him far beyond his Florida roots. A proud graduate of the University of Florida, he was a lifelong Gator fan and an enthusiastic follower of college football.

Dan's commitment to military service began during his college years, when he participated in the Reserve Officers' Training Corps (ROTC) at the University of Florida. He went on to serve his country in the United States Army Corps of Engineers, including service in Vietnam, and retired as Lieutenant Colonel Daniel Lewis Campbell Jr., USA Retired, following his service in the United States Army Reserve. He also enjoyed a long career as an engineer with Florida Power, a profession well suited to his analytical mind, strong work ethic, and belief in doing things the right way.

A man of sharp intellect and endless curiosity, Dan had a particular love of history and was an avid reader of both fiction and nonfiction. He was rarely without a book and enjoyed learning about the world around him. His quick wit and sense of humor were unmistakably his own. His jokes often required a little thought to fully appreciate, and he particularly enjoyed the company of those who could keep up.

Dan enjoyed good food, football, travel, and the simple pleasures of being home. Over the course of his life, he visited all 50 states and many countries around the world, collecting experiences and memories along the way. Yet despite his travels, his greatest happiness was found in the company of his family.

He shared 59 years of marriage with his beloved wife, Gail Corbett Campbell, building a life together centered on love, loyalty, and commitment. Dan expressed his love freely, both through his words and through his actions. He took tremendous pride in his children and grandchildren, celebrating their accomplishments and taking genuine joy in the people they became. He was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather whose affection, generosity, and dependability made his family feel deeply loved.

Perhaps what most defined Dan was his character. He believed in fairness, kept his promises, and held himself to the same high standards he expected of others. He lived by the Golden Rule, not simply as a saying, but as a guiding principle. While he could be stubborn in his convictions, he was unwavering in his commitment to honesty, kindness, and doing what was right.

Dan is survived by his beloved wife of 59 years, Gail Corbett Campbell; his daughters, Krissy Coen (Bob) and Stacy Campbell (fiancé James Baker); his grandchildren, Trevor Coen (Erin) and Emily Rodgers (Michael); and his great-grandsons, Quay, Dash, and Rhett.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Rosemary Campbell and Daniel Lewis Campbell Sr.

Dan's legacy lives on in the family he loved, the principles he practiced, and the example he set. He will be remembered for his intelligence, his humor, his generosity, and above all, the integrity and love with which he lived his life.

He will be deeply missed and forever loved.
