Robert Howard Riner
April 26, 1958 — July 1, 2015
Mr. Robert H. (Bob) Riner, age 57, of St. Petersburg, Florida, died July 1, 2015. Bob was born and raised in Nevils, GA. Upon completing his schooling, he moved to Savannah, GA where he lived until he joined and served in the US Army. Prior to moving to St Petersburg, FL to live with his partner, Robb Malizia, he resided in Atlanta, GA where he worked for Dekalb General and Egleston Children's Hospitals. Bob also owned and operated Riner Garden Center, in Decatur, GA.
He joined the Smith & Associates Real Estate family in 2008 as an agent, and ultimately served as office manager. During his tenure with Smith, he came to love everyone he worked with. His dedication to his employer and co-workers has been confirmed by the respect and admiration expressed at his passing.
He was preceded in death by his father, R.J. Riner; sisters Nathaleen Counts and Norma Jean Riner, and a brother, Gene Riner; additionally several aunts and uncles preceded him in death.
He is Survived by his partner, Robert Malizia, of St Petersburg; his mother, Loretta Roberts of Nevils; brother and sister-in-law, Al and Patti Riner of Nevils; and several nieces, nephews and half-brothers. In addition to his immediate family, Bob had an extended loving and supportive family, including his partner's children and grandchildren, as well as his Smith & Associates family.
While Bob was well traveled, his greatest joy was to be at home, surrounded by friends and family. People who knew and loved Bob saw him as a charming, happy, Southern gentleman. Bob was known as a "sweetheart of a man", full of humor, love and kindness. He was quick to laugh and brighten the room. He was devoted to his family and friends and the people with whom he worked. He will truly be missed.
A Memorial Service will be held on Tuesday, July 14, 2015, from 5-8pm, at the Mahaffey Theater, 400 1st Street SE in St. Petersburg, FL
