William "Bill" Cate

Cate, William “Bill”, 43 of St. Petersburg went to be with the Lord on September 23, 2026 at home in St. Petersburg, FL. 

Bill was born September 23, 1983 in St. Petersburg, FL. His parents are Gary and Sharon Cate. He attended and graduated from Northeast High School. He attended and received his HVAC certificate from Pinellas Technical College.

Bill was an independent, resourceful and loving man. Bill was an excellent athlete in his teens playing baseball and football both in the city leagues and high school. Bill enjoyed playing disc golf with his friends at Maximo Park. He was also an avid bicycle rider. He had a love and talent for cooking which led to his chosen profession of being a chef. Bill was employed at many of the restaurants in Downtown St. Petersburg. He had a love for music. He taught himself to play guitar in his teens. He spent many nights performing around the bar scene in Downtown St. Petersburg. He loved to travel and was able to see most of the United States. He always returned to St. Petersburg after every adventure. Bill had a love for gardening and spent a season as a farm hand in Whidbey Island, Washington growing heirloom vegetables. He was proud of the many house plants he grew and nurtured and loved to show them off. Bill loved to read and stay informed on current events. Bill had his opinions and always enjoyed a good debate. Bill Was a member of Palm Lake Christian Church. He was active in the youth group and attended church regularly while growing up. His smile and charming spirit will be remembered by all who knew him. He will be missed by his family and friends.

He is preceded in death by grandparents, Bill and Mamie Jo Cate (Middleburg, FL) and Chester and Sue Dees (Haines City, FL).

Bill is survived by his parents, Gary and Sharon Cate (Middleburg, FL), sister Julie Hicks, brother-in-law Leander Hicks, niece Savannah Hicks (Virginia Beach, VA).

Bill’s Celebration of Life Service will be Saturday October 10, 2026 12 pm at Palm Lake Christian Church 5401 22nd Ave. N St Petersburg FL
