Earl Merritt
Sep 18, 1933 — Feb 26, 2017
Our family is reflecting on and celebrating the life of Earl Merritt, a loving husband, big brother, amazing father, wonderful grandfather, great grandfather and good friend who passed on Sunday February 26, 2017.
He is preceded in death and received lovingly into heaven by his parents Stanley and Jeannette Merritt. We would like to share a few of his accomplishments: He selflessly volunteered and served in the Army and the Phoenix Police Reserves. He always thought of others and donated money to many different charities and schools in his community. He owned a construction company where he fixed roofs, and built additions to homes. He worked at a gas station where he repaired cars. He passed some of these skills on to his children and grandchildren.
By trade he was an engineer, and enjoyed designing products that made our military and country safer. He learned to pilot a Cessna 210 as part of a work assignment at Motorola. His being a pilot allowed us to visit with his parents when we lived out of state.
He was our beacon of light in the dark, a truly selfless and loving man. Earl was a humble man and didn’t think that what he was doing was exceptional. He saw it as doing the right thing. Earl was an example that we want to follow because he was the truest definition of unconditional love and support. He was a man of few words but when he spoke, we all listened to his words of wisdom.
Earl felt that his greatest accomplishment and what he took the most pride in was his family. He whole heartedly loved and cherished Ida his amazing wife of 61 years, his beloved children that he was so proud of Lynnette, Ken and Lianne, his 6 amazing grandchildren and his 7 adorable great grandchildren. He was a remarkable and generous man who was deeply loved and will be greatly missed. Earl will always hold a special place in all of our hearts!
