Kathy Louise Hartsock

Apr 18, 1950 — Sep 2, 2026

Kathy Louise Hartsock, a free spirit with a big smile and a bigger laugh, passed away in Tucson on September 2, 2026, at the age of 76.

Kathy was born in Columbus, Ohio, on April 18, 1950. In 1953, her family moved to Tucson for her health, and the desert became home for good. As a little girl she showed the fearlessness that would define her life. While other kids ran from horned toads, Kathy picked them up and petted them. She graduated from Catalina High School with the Class of 1968.

Kathy spent 37 years in financial services as a stockbroker's assistant and retired from UBS in 2020. Clients and colleagues could count on her to be sharp, capable, and honest, sometimes more honest than they expected. She said what she meant, and people trusted her for it.

Outside of work, Kathy lived fully. She loved camping on Mt. Lemmon, trips to Hawaii and beyond, and cooking for the people she cared about. She had a real eye for style, whether that was her wardrobe (she never passed up a good shopping trip) or her townhouse, which she decorated with care. She had a soft spot for dogs, especially her beloved Ruby, and, as she'd happily admit, a weakness for bad boys.

Game night was sacred. Kathy played to win, and her friends will tell you that when she lost, the whole room knew it, usually because of one colorful word said at full volume. It's one of the things they'll miss most.

Kathy will be remembered for her smile, her honesty, her generosity, her fearlessness, her style, her sense of humor, and a love of life that was contagious. She was confident, loyal, and loving, and she was a true friend.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Kenneth J. and Marjorie E. Hartsock. She is survived by her brother, Kenneth J. Hartsock, Jr.; her faithful companion, Ruby; and many friends who are better for having known her.

In keeping with her wishes, memorial donations may be made to Ironwood Pig Sanctuary or the Community Food Bank of Southern Arizona.
