Millie Economidis
Oct 18, 1939 — Aug 10, 2011
With the grace and dignity that exemplified her during her lifetime, Millie died peacefully with all of her family by her side. Millie was born in Lebanon, Pennsylvania to Grace and Rodney Arnokovich. Her family relocated to Tucson in 1951 and were Tucson residents ever since. With her parents and siblings, Millie was active in the St. Demetrios Greek Orthodox Church and the family was the backbone of the church choir. From her early service to the church, Millie commenced a lifetime of hard work and dedication to charitable causes. She was a member of the Junior League of Tucson where she served as Treasurer and was a founding member of Angel Charity for Children, Inc. where she served on or chaired a number of committees. Her record keeping, writing of policies and wisdom contributed immeasurably to the success of Angel Charity and the members often referred to her as “Saint Millie”. She was Vice Chairman in 1987 and helped raise $551,000 for Child and Family Resources. She was named a member of the Guardian Angels and served in that capacity until her illness. Between her efforts for Angel Charity, Millie served on the Board of the Tucson Museum of Art, she was a strong supporter of the Steele Children’s Research Center helping to raise funds for cancer research for children and also helped in her husband’s law practice. Never wanting to give up and leave those she loved, Millie fought valiantly against the cancer that struck her first in 2000, and again in 2007. Her unique bravery was matched only by her thoughtfulness of others. Though she was waging the battle of her life, she often expressed deep concern and caring for the children she met who were themselves stricken with cancer.
Preceded in death by her mother and father, Millie is survived by her husband Peter, sons George (Terri), and Gregory, grandchildren Christopher and Rachel Redondo, Mariana and Kailee Economidis, sister Carol (David) Yarnes, brothers Milo Arnokovich and Rodney Arnokovich Jr., as well as many extended family members. We cherish our memories of you and will keep you in our hearts forever. Thank you for your love and guidance. You have so enriched each of our lives.
