Rebecca Limas
Jan 16, 1948 — Jul 13, 2024
Rebecca Limas, 76, gently passed July 13, 2024, after a long illness. Becky was the second daughter of five children born to Frank and Mary Gabusi. She grew up in Clifton, Arizona. After high school graduation she earned bachelor's and master's degrees in education. She taught bi-lingual primary grades in Yuma, Arizona where she met the love of her life, Tony. They were married for 32 years and had one daughter, Monica.
Becky was a sister, daughter, aunt, mother and proud grandmother. And she loved each of those roles. She never forgot a birthday or any family event, celebrating it with a plate of enchiladas, a fancy cake and Hallmark cards. At the slightest hint, she would bake a batch of chocolate chip cookies, hot out of the ovens of “Becky’s Bakery.”
She enjoyed musicals and could sing song after song, word perfect, her favorites being Oklahoma, Carousel and The King and I. She watched classic movies from the 1940s and 1950s, especially if they had singing and dancing and Donald O’Connor or Mitzi Gaynor.
Becky was at her best for the holidays, especially Christmas. She loved it so much she started watching Hallmark Christmas movies in July! She had an amazing collection of Holiday sweatshirts she wore every day, complete with her favorite necklace of flashing lights! She decorated her house with her collection of Toy Soldiers from the Nutcracker, singing Santas, dancing reindeer and holiday snow globes. And in a place of honor, a Creche that her mother handed down to her.
Twice a week, Becky “did lunch.” Dressed up, usually in pink, her favorite color, she’d join friends or family and head to her favorite restaurant, Sauce, and order her usual: Grilled cheese on Tuscan Bread. The staff knew her so well she never had to place an order.
Becky loved her family most of all. After her husband died, Becky retired and moved to Tucson to be near her sister Martha. Soon after, her grandson Mateo was born, her “pride and joy” she liked to say. Nana Becky was happiest when Mateo was perched on her lap listening to his Nana read and sing songs to him or count with him and name colors.
Anyone who has ever met Becky will not soon forget her. Her happiness was contagious. Her unfailing generosity, good cheer and bright smile never faltered even when tested with sadness.
We will miss her beyond measure.
She was our pride and joy.
