Christopher Lujan

Christopher Lujan, born on January 1, 1963, was the youngest son of eight children in his family. He was preceded in death by his parents, Paul and Florence Lujan, as well as his brothers Danny, Albert, and Ronnie Lujan. He is lovingly remembered by his son Joseph Maes, granddaughter Delilah Maes, brother Richard Dias, sister Marie Gallegos, brother Mike Lujan, sister Jackie Kremlacek, and numerous nieces and nephews.

Chris attended Erie Elementary and later moved to East Arvada Junior High, before graduating from Pomona High School. He was active and passionate about sports throughout his youth, playing baseball and wrestling, and his dedication led him to try out as a walk-on for the University of Colorado Boulder Buffaloes football team. Chris spent a year pursuing this dream at C.U. Boulder, exemplifying his determination and love for athletics.

Beyond his athletic pursuits, Chris expressed his creativity by coloring pictures, framing his artwork, and playing his mother's organ. He also began his working life in restaurants, bussing tables and developing his strong work ethic and generosity.

Chris was known for his kindness and generosity, though he faced personal challenges as mental illness increasingly shaped his adult life. While his illness sometimes made relationships difficult and led him to spend more time alone, those who knew Chris before and during his struggle remember his warmth, perseverance, and the moments he shared with others. Despite his hardships, he demonstrated strength and resilience that touched those around him.

Chris’s story is a reminder of the complexity of mental illness and the importance of compassion—for ourselves and for the people we love. He will be remembered for his spirited youth, his creative talents, and the kindness and generosity he showed to many.
