Diane Kay Smith

Diane Kay Smith, age 85, of Denver, Colorado, passed away peacefully on September 27, 2026, surrounded by the love of her family.

Born on December 21, 1940, in Iowa, to Richard and Mary Courtney.

Diane grew up with a deep appreciation for family. She grew up in Elsie, Nebraska. She married John Schmitt and had 4 children, John, Mary, Lori and Susan. After their divorce, she remarried and later divorced Charles Smith.

As a mother, her greatest joy and proudest achievement in life was raising her four children. She possessed a rare gift for making each of her children feel entirely seen, heard, and supported, no matter life's challenges. Whether she was tending to her vibrant backyard rose garden, baking her famous goodies, like peanut brittle and little horns, Diane lived a life defined by quiet strength.

She is survived by her children, Mary (and Terry) Mosely, Lori Jackson and Susan (John) Newton; her cherished grandchildren, John, Brianna, Cali, Billy, Dani, Jarod, Destiny, Jacci, Star and her many adoring great-grandchildren; and her sisters, Joan Duggan and Connie Wilson. She was preceded in death by her parents, Richard and Mary; son, John; great-granddaughter, Courtney Schmitt; Sister Patsy Lee. Her ex-husbands, John Schmitt and Charles Smith.

A private service will be held at a later date.
