Stanley Kerry Hamilton

Stanley Kerry Hamilton passed away peacefully on Auguat 10, 2026.  He was 85 years old.  He was born in Indianapolis, Indiana, to Paul Emerson Hamilton and Margaret Florence Smith on February 24, 1941. 

Stan attended Lawrence Central High School, where he participated in track, football, and band.  He graduated as Valedictorian.  He went on to study geology, earning a B.S. from Indiana University and on M.S. and Ph.D.  from the University of Wisconsin.  At Indiana University, he loved playing the trumpet in the Marching Hundred band and participating in the Little 500 bicycle race. 

Stan knew from an early age that he wanted to work outdoors and see different parts of the world.  In his carerr, he worked for Amax Exploration and  Amax Gold as an economic geologist, exploring for metallic mineral deposits.  He became Chief Geologist and U.S. Exploration Manager.  After 27 years with Amax, he worked as a consulting geologist.  His work took him to remote and rugged locations, and he loved that part of it.  Over the course of his career, he worked in fourteen states and sixteen countries, and he often mentioned how fortunate he was to work in some of the world's most beautiful places. 

Stan was a lifelong learner with a strong interest in history.  He was proud of being a sixth-generation Universalist.  He was an avid reader, runner, hiker, and skier.  He loved brass music, especially the Denver Brass.  

Stan is survived by his wife of 60 years, Mary, his son John and his wife, Mitsuru, and his two grandaughters Maya Lynn Hamilton and Emily May Hamilton.  He was preceded in death by his daughter, Lisa Ann.  He will be deeply missed by his family and friends, who will remember his intellect, determination, and generosity.
