Steven Gene Urquhart
November 30, 1954 — May 4, 2026
Steven G. Urquhart November 30, 1954 – May 4, 2026
Steven Gene Urquhart, beloved husband, devoted family man, and loyal friend, passed away peacefully on May 4, 2026, at the age of 71, following complications from cancer.
Born in Denver and raised in Arvada, Steve attended Arvada schools and built a life rooted in family and hard work. He lived in Wisconsin, Kansas, and Nebraska for many years before returning home to his beloved Colorado in 2018.
Steve was known for his generous heart, steady presence, and the love he freely gave to those around him. He cherished family above all else, and although he never had biological children, he embraced many as his own, offering guidance, support, and unconditional love throughout his life. His kindness and strength left a lasting impact on everyone fortunate enough to know him.
Steve worked in many fields throughout his life. He was a tool and die maker for several decades before returning to college later in life. Before retiring, he served as Director of Operations and Chief Operations Officer for several small and startup manufacturing companies, bringing dedication, leadership, and hard work to every role he held.
Steve enjoyed spending time with family, traveling, hiking, hunting, music, singing, and riding his Harley, but woodworking was truly his passion and obsession. He took pride in creating things with his hands and sharing his craftsmanship with family and friends. Whether building something meaningful or spending time in his workshop, Steve found joy and peace in the work he loved. He enjoyed the small and the grand things in life equally. Some of his happiest days were spent traveling with his wife, Debbie, throughout the US and to Mexico and Canada. He was deeply devoted to Debbie and cherished every moment they spent together. His goal each day was to make her happy. Also left to carry on the chaos is Gemma, his wild and much-loved puppy, who never met anything plastic she didn’t sneakily devour. Her antics made Steve laugh every day.
Steve was preceded in death by his parents, Dale and Arlene Urquhart; his brother, Robert “Mike” Urquhart; and his sister-in-law, Trina Fulmer.
He is survived by his loving wife, Debra DeLong Urquhart, with whom he shared many years filled with love, companionship, and cherished memories. He also leaves behind the many children he loved as his own: Ron (Lisa) Dockstader, Tony Cianciolo, Jim Speichert, Tim Speichert, Danielle (Jay) Costello, Amy Compton, Amber (Alex) Cherrette, William (Missy) Cherrette, Tyler (Lydia) Cherrette, and Kaylee Cherrette; as well as his special friend and “son,” Mike Martinez. He is also survived by his mother-in-law, Maggie Daniels; his brothers-in-law, Richard DeLong and Tim Daniels; many grandchildren who lovingly knew him as “Papa Steve”; along with many extended family members and dear friends who will deeply miss him.
Steve’s legacy will live on in the lives he touched, the family he loved, and the memories shared over the years. He will be remembered for his generosity, loyalty, resilience, and the way he made people feel welcome and cared for.
