Bonnie Lee Johnson

Bonnie Lee Johnson, 91, of Lakewood, Colorado, passed away peacefully in Morristown, Tennessee on September 19, 2025. She was born on Wednesday, May 23, 1934, in Grand Island, Nebraska to Oscar J. & Bernice M. Cram. 

Bonnie graduated from Grand Island High School in 1952 and married the following year. Bonnie shared 45 wonderful years of marriage with her late husband, David B. Johnson. Together they built a life centered around family, love, and enduring commitment. They spent many weekends camping , fishing, and enjoying the Colorado mountains. 

She worked the majority of her career for the government, and then a short stint at Adolph Coors Company. Upon retirement from the government, Bonnie went to work part time at Black Hills Energy until the age of 85. 

Bonnie’s hobbies included sewing clothes for her children, making Barbie & baby doll clothes. Bonnie loved making her grandkids’ Halloween costumes. She also made the cuffs and collars for the Chippendale dancers. She was quite proud of that honor.  She was an amazing seamstress. Bonnie loved to travel with Dave and then with her kids after his passing in 1999; they tried to go cruising every 3 years. She also enjoyed working word search puzzles until her eyesight let her down.

Bonnie is survived by her loving children: Jodi Orr (Joe) of White Pine, TN; Judee Carrillo (Ray) of Abilene, TX; and Jackie Shelton (Scott) of Denver, CO. Bonnie was a proud grandmother to: David Carrillo (Kayley) of Nashville, TN; Daniel Carrillo of Nashville, TN; and Deanna Carrillo Frymire (Ray) of Georgetown, TX, and a cherished great-grandmother to Knox and Karsyn Frymire. Bonnie is also survived by her beloved identical twin sister, Peggy Tagge of Calhan, Colorado, and several nieces and nephews. Her family was the joy of her life, and her legacy lives on in each of them. She was preceded in death by her husband, Dave, their special dog, Augie, her parents, her three brothers; Bob, Cliff, and Jim, and several nephews. 

Bonnie will be remembered for her warmth, strength, and devotion to those she loved. Her presence was a blessing to all who knew her, and her memory will be held in our hearts forever. 

A celebration of Bonnie’s life will be held on Friday, October 17th at 10:30am at Ft. Logan National Cemetery in Denver, Colorado. Friends and family are asked to arrive 20 minutes early and enter the cemetery from S. Sheridan  Blvd.  Line up at stage area “blue” behind other cars to be taken to the service pavilion.
