Charles Wayne Jones

Charles Wayne Jones, known to family and friends as Wayne, passed away peacefully on May 29, 2026, at the age of 78, with his family by his side.

Born in Blytheville, Arkansas, on November 21, 1947, Wayne moved to Colorado with his family at the age of five. He spent many years driving buses for RTD before retiring to enjoy a country life in NE Colorado, where he later drove an activity bus for the Wiggins School District.

Wayne joined the US Navy in January, 1965 at age 17 during the Vietnam War. In July, 1965 he received his high school G.E.D. While stationed in San Diego with the Beach Jumper Unit, he was recognized for his bravery after rescuing a person from a burning car. He remained a proud patriot throughout his life and was a dedicated member of the American Legion.

Wayne married Karen (Clausen) Jones on November 4, 1982. Together they built a life centered around family, hard work, and love. He was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather.

Wayne is survived by his wife, Karen; their sons Cody (Brianna) Jones, Kele (Valentyme) Jones, Dean (Maria) Thompson, and Shane (Hollie) Thompson; 17 grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. He is also survived by his sisters Sue (Jack) Mohr and Rhonda (Rick) Garcia, along with many nieces, nephews, cousins, other family and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, Betty Lucille (Reed) Jones and James Alonzo “Buddy” Jones.

He loved the western lifestyle and took pride in his Cherokee heritage. Wayne loved camping, fishing, hunting, playing board and card games, rodeos and riding horses. He cherished his dogs, Karson and Tucker, among others. Wayne never met a stranger and was always willing to lend a helping hand to someone in need.

Wayne was known for his patriotism, strong convictions, humor, and straightforward way of speaking. A lifelong Denver Broncos fan, he especially loved spending time with his family. Whether it was a game, recital, concert, school event, graduation, or any other special moment, Wayne loved being there to cheer them on and celebrate their accomplishments.

Wayne also enjoyed karaoke and was well known for singing a favorite of his: “The Devil Went Down to Georgia.”

Wayne will be remembered for his service, loyalty, humor, strong character, and the deep love he had for his family. His stories, laughter, and memory will live on in the hearts of all who knew and loved him.

Wayne’s family asks that in lieu of flowers, consider a donation to a favorite charity of his which is St. Jude’s.
