Born November 29, 1929 Died April 6, 2015

Charlie was born on November 29, 1929 in Mount Vernon Illinois.

Charlie was the youngest of four sons of Charles M. Wheeler and Hester Miller of Springfield Missouri. Charlie’s brothers were, Elmer Wheeler, Gene Wheeler and Arthur Wheeler. Charlie had the privilege of being married to four unique and beautiful women. With his second wife, Barbara Wheeler, he welcomed the birth of his son, Gene. Charlie was widowed after the death of his wife Eva Wheeler in 1985. He is survived by his son Gene Wheeler.

As a boy, Charlie enjoyed helping his parents in the family garden. He enjoyed athletics, especially baseball. He and his brother Arthur would frequently travel to watch his favorite baseball team, the St. Louis Cardinals, often without his parents’ knowledge or permission. He was an accomplished pool and dart enthusiast. He loved exploring and traveling, and either visited or was stationed on five continents. His love for golf became his pursuit and passion, which he enjoyed for five decades.

Charlie graduated from Mount Vernon High school in 1947.

He enlisted in the United States Air Force January 6, 1948 and served until February 28, 1973. He served with distinguished service for twenty years. During his years of service he “constantly demonstrated exemplary duty performance and desire to see each assignment accomplished completely and correctly.” During the course of his career he served in both Korea and Vietnam. His final assignment was Crew Chief of the 50th Ammunition Supply Squadron, Storage handling Branch. “He was held in highest esteem by both officers and airmen who had the opportunity to serve with him.”
