Earl Bruce Schock

Earl 'Bruce' Schock went to be with the Lord on June 23, 2018 at age 87. He is survived by his wife, Alice; children Larry (Karen) Schock of Lakewood, CO; daughter Varilyn Schock of Lakewood; Larry & Karen's children, Mekayla Schock of Denver and Aneska Schock of Lakewood; his sister Betty Pflibsen of Tucson, AZ and brother Jewell (Evelyn) Schock of Arvada, along with many nieces, nephews and extended family. Bruce was born in Ames, Iowa and spent his childhood summers helping his grandparents on their farm, and grew up in the nearby small town of Bode, IA. He graduated from Bode High School. He served in the Marines in the Korean War. During that time, Bruce and Alice Ruby Everett became acquainted by being pen pals while he was a long way from home. Following the Armistice, Bruce and Alice married in Stilson, IA on May 13, 1956. Bruce graduated in architectural drafting from Dunwoody Industrial Institute, Minneapolis, MN and attended Iowa State University School of Architecture. During the couples first visit to Colorado Bruce and Alice were drawn to the majestic beauty of Colorado and moved to Arvada shortly thereafter. As a licensed architect, Bruce practiced architecture in Colorado, Wyoming and Nebraska and designed many banks, commercial projects and churches. He was also sought after to design custom homes. Bruce was a dedicated husband, father and grandfather. He loved spending time with his family and in the Rocky Mountains. His faith in Jesus Christ was instrumental to who he was and all he did. He volunteered in many areas for over 40 years at Arvada Covenant Church, including leading the effort to build the larger church at its present location. He was an avid nature photographer and could conceive of and build almost anything with his hands. Bruce will be greatly missed by his family, as well as relatives and many friends.
