Chrystol Joy Tobias

Chrystol Joy (Rasmussen) Tobias, age 97, of Carlton, MN, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, May 19, 2026, at Interfaith Care Center in Carlton, MN.

Chrystol Rasmussen was born on January 18, 1929, the daughter of the late Chris and Hazel (Cowles) Rasmussen. She was raised on the family farm in Randalia, IA, and graduated from Randalia High School. She went to teacher’s college and taught school until she was married. She then devoted her time to raising her 5 children. The family made their home in Des Moines, IA, and moved to Brookston in 1969.

Chrystol enjoyed travelling, road trips in a converted bus when the kids were younger and then travelling the world. She went to Nova Scotia, Denmark, Germany, toured all around Europe, and to Israel 3 times. She also was very active in her church, loved to read, and volunteer driving for Lutheran Social Services, but most of all wanted to spend time with her family, especially her grandchildren.

Chrystol is survived by her 5 children, Faye (Randy) Groth, Craig (Alison) Tobias, Kim (Rib Heron) Lehmann, Neal (Patti) Tobias, and Jo Tobias; 8 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; 1 great-grandchild; and sister, Madalyn (Earl) Vierow; as well as many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents; grandchild, Greenly Sundquist; sister, Jean Baker; and nephew, Brad Vierow.

The family would like to extend a special thank you to the staff of Interfaith Care Center and St. Croix Hospice for all their attentive and compassionate care over this time.

Funeral service for Chrystol will be held at 11:00 am, on Thursday, May 28, 2026, at New Life Community Church in Carlton, MN, with a time for visitation one hour before the service. Interment will take place at Long Grove Cemetery in Maynard, IA, 2:00 pm on Friday, May 29, 2026.
