Tyler Benjamin Nynas
Nov 10, 2000 — Jun 28, 2026
Tyler Benjamin Nynas, 25, of Barnum, Minnesota, was born on November 10, 2000, and tragically passed away on June 28, 2026, as the result of a single-vehicle accident.
Tyler grew up in Barnum and graduated from Barnum High School, where he excelled both in the classroom and in athletics. During his high school career, he broke several school records in football and track and became a member of the prestigious 1,000 Point Club in basketball. An outstanding student, gifted athlete, and loyal friend, Tyler was admired and respected by everyone who knew him.
Following high school, Tyler proudly enlisted in the Minnesota Army National Guard, faithfully serving his country for eight years, including a year-long overseas deployment. During his military service, he earned the Army Achievement Medal, an honor awarded for exceptional service and dedication. Tyler was also selected for a military exchange program in Norway, where he trained in outdoor survival alongside allied soldiers.
As a Biomedical Equipment Specialist, Tyler developed highly specialized technical skills and was one of two selected in Minnesota qualified to perform this critical work. After completing his service, he received an honorable discharge.
Never one to stop learning, Tyler graduated Magna Cum Laude from the University of North Dakota in May 2026 with a degree in Electrical Engineering. He recently began his career with Minnesota Power, where he was excited to build the future he had worked so hard to achieve.
Tyler was an avid outdoorsman with a deep love for hunting, fishing, and spending time in nature. He loved all sports and especially enjoyed golfing, jiu-jitsu, pickup basketball games, weightlifting, cornhole, boating, and evenings spent playing cards with family and friends. Tyler had an infectious smile and the kindest eyes that could brighten any room and a personality that drew people to him. He had a remarkable ability to turn almost anything into a friendly competition—even seeing who could hold their breath the longest. Above all else, Tyler treasured the time he spent with his family and friends. His love for those around him was genuine, and the memories he created with them will be cherished forever.
Tyler is survived by his parents, Benjamin Nynas of Carlton and Stephanie Nynas of Barnum; his older brother, Osten (Ally) Berg; his twin brother, Jacob (Kirsten) Nynas; his younger sisters, Kaitlyn (Brandon) Nynas, Morghan Nynas-Korpela, and Lyndie Nynas-Korpela; his beloved nephew, Benjamin; and the nephew he was eagerly awaiting the arrival of this October. He is also survived by his grandparents, Steve and Lois of Esko, and Deborah and Dave Gellatly of Esko, along with many aunts, uncles, cousins, extended family members, and countless friends whose lives he touched.
Tyler was welcomed into Heaven by his Grandpa Billy and many other beloved relatives who had gone before him.
A Celebration of Tyler's Life will be held on Thursday, July 9, at Atkins-Northland Funeral Home in Cloquet. Visitation will take place from 12:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m., with a light meal served during that time. A funeral service will begin at 2:00 p.m., followed by burial at the Apostolic Lutheran Cemetery on Church Road in Esko.
Serving as honorary pallbearers are Osten Berg, Jacob Nynas, Kaitlyn Nynas, Lyndie Nynas, Ally Berg, Kirsten Hebler and Brandon Newman.
Though Tyler's life was far too short, it was one filled with purpose, service, laughter, adventure, and unconditional love. He leaves behind a legacy of kindness, strength, perseverance, and a reminder to live life fully, love deeply, and never take a single day for granted. He will be deeply missed and forever loved.
