Barbara Ann McDermott

Jan 3, 1927 — Oct 8, 2026

Barbara Ann (Gumaer) McDermott, age 99, lived a long and remarkable life filled with love, hard work, creativity, and a spirit that was unmistakably her own. She passed peaceful early Thursday, 10/8/26. She is survived by her daughter-in-law Wendy, grandchildren Holly and Josh, great granddaughter Lindsay, and numerous nieces and nephews. She is predeceased by her husband Donald, son Dennis, sisters Dorthy and Erma Jean, and brothers Bruce, Curtis, Gordan and Robert.

Barbara was a proud lifelong member of the Delphi Falls Church, leading the women’s group for many years. She was very active within her community organizing luncheons, bazaars, playing Mrs. Claus and working the polls during elections.

Barbara was a feisty, spirited woman who knew her own mind and was never afraid to speak it. Her lively personality made her unforgettable to those who knew and loved her.

An avid quilter, Barbara found joy in creating beautiful things with her hands. Each quilt she made was a labor of love, carefully stitched together with patience and creativity. She found joy in quilting for not just her family but also donating her time to her church quilting group for the Christmas Bazaar.

Barbara also showed her love through cooking. She cooked many suppers for her church, generously sharing her time, talents, and delicious meals with others. Her willingness to lend a hand was an important part of who she was.

Over her 99 years, Barbara witnessed nearly a century of change and created countless memories along the way. She leaves behind a legacy of resilience, generosity, and a feisty spirit that will be remembered for years to come.

Barbara will be deeply missed by her family, friends, church community, and all those whose lives she touched. Though she may no longer be here to cook a meal, stitch a quilt, or share her strong opinions, the memories of her life and the love she gave will remain forever.

The family would like to extend a special and heartfelt thank you to Barbara’s daughter-in-law, Wendy, for the love, care, and devotion she showed Barbara. Her kindness, support, and the time she gave will always be appreciated and will never be forgotten. She made a meaningful difference in Barbara’s life, and the family is forever grateful for all she did.
