James W. Dauler

Jul 5, 1936 — Sep 21, 2026

James W. Dauler, 90, passed away on September 21, 2026, nearly seven years after losing the love of his life, his wife Donna.

Those who knew Jim knew how much of his life revolved around Donna. They were married for nearly 50 years, raised their son Jeffrey together in Nedrow, and built a partnership where it was difficult to imagine one without the other. When Donna died in December 2019, Jim was never quite the same. His family takes great comfort in believing that they are finally together again.

Jim was incredibly devoted, fiercely stubborn, and funny. Life brought its share of struggles and obstacles, but he had a remarkable ability to adjust and carry on as though everything was just fine. Those close to him rarely knew about the worries or difficulties that existed behind the scenes. For better or worse, Jim lived his life as though everything was going to be okay. And as long as Donna was beside him, it was.

The people Jim loved knew they were his people, and his loyalty to them ran deep.

Like his father, Jim collected coins and stamps. He enjoyed camping with his sons and ice fishing with friends. He worked as a tool designer at Crouse-Hinds for more than 40 years.

His happiest times were spent with Donna, including many summers at Brennan Beach in Pulaski. In retirement, Jim and Donna became regular visitors to Turning Stone Casino and enjoyed traveling together, including an annual trip to Lake Keowee in South Carolina.

In addition to Donna, Jim was preceded in death by his son, James “Jimmy” Dauler; his parents, Martha Dauler and John Hoffman Dauler; and his siblings, Richard, Janet, and Doris.

He is survived by his son David (wife Erliza); son Jeffrey (wife Callie; granddaughters Ellie and Olivia); granddaughter Jennifer; his niece, Lisa; and many friends who loved him.

Among those friends, he was especially close to his neighbors on East Conklin Avenue in Nedrow, including Joan Stoddard and Verna and Tom Ludwig. Their friendship, kindness and presence in his life, particularly in the years after Donna’s passing, meant more than they may ever know.

There is sadness in saying goodbye to Jim, but for those who knew how deeply he loved Donna, there is also peace in imagining what came next.

For nearly seven years, the person he loved most was somewhere he could not follow.

On September 21, he finally did.

James and Donna will rest together at Onondaga Valley Cemetery. Services will be held at a later date.
