San Jose — James Seichi Uratani, 80, left us peacefully in his sleep on Sunday, December 14, 2025, surrounded by his family.

James/Kimo/Jim was born on August 2, 1945 in Honolulu, Hawaii to Yoshio and Satsuki Uratani. He graduated from McKinley High School in 1963, after which he entered into the military branch of the Navy. Upon completion of his military career, he attended and graduated from the University of Hawaii on May 19, 1974 receiving a Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering. He worked for Lockheed Martin Space Systems Company in the Missiles and Space Operations for 26 years.

A lifelong bachelor, he never married and often joked about his many ‘lady friends’. He lived life on his own terms and took great pleasure in spending time with his family and friends. He was a devoted member of the Friends of the Winemakers group for many years. Ever passionate about photography, everyone knew they could always count on him to capture family gatherings and group get-togethers — whether they realized it or not — preserving the memories of time spent together.

James is preceded in death by his parents, Yoshio and Satsuki Uratani.

Jim is survived by his daughter, Caroline Aguirre (Jirian); his grandchildren, Christina Ford (Cody), Anthony Aguirre; great-grandson, Koa Ford; brothers, Ted (Suzanne) Uratani, Kerry (Leslie) Uratani, and Frank (Vida) Uratani; sister, Joyce Kendall; nieces, Colette (George) Manning, Sherry Uratani, Lyn (Austin) Streadbeck; nephews, Ty (Michelle) Uratani, Reid Uratani; grand-nephew, Carsten Manning; and grandnephew, Ari Uratani.
