In Loving Memory of Andrew Charles Kerfut

October 4, 2026 | Age 87

Andrew Charles Kerfut, 87, a devoted husband, loving father, cherished grandfather, and beloved friend, entered the Gates of Heaven on October 4, 2026, surrounded by the love and memories of a life beautifully lived.

Born in New York City to Charles Grant Kerfut and Mary Brophy Kerfut, Andrew lived a life defined by faith, family, education, laughter, and a genuine love for people. He leaves behind a legacy of kindness, dedication, and countless memories that will forever be treasured by those who knew and loved him.

Andrew is survived by his beloved wife of 62 years, Georgianna Underwood Kerfut; his son, George Kerfut, of Florida; his daughter, Denise Twiss, and son-in-law, Sean Twiss, of Georgia; and his daughter, Jennifer Saleh, and son-in-law, Bahjat Saleh, of Virginia.

To his four beloved grandchildren—Hayden Twiss, Aliaa Saleh, Alexis Twiss, and Kais Saleh—he was affectionately known as “Poppie.” He was a constant source of love, wisdom, encouragement, and laughter, and being their grandfather was one of his greatest joys. The time they spent together and the memories they created will remain among their most treasured gifts.

A lifelong learner and passionate advocate for education, Andrew believed deeply in the power of knowledge and the importance of inspiring future generations. He earned his Bachelor of Science degree from the State University of New York at Cortland, his Master of Arts in Guidance Counseling from Fairfield University, and his Doctor of Education degree from Columbia University.

Andrew devoted much of his professional life to the Irvington Union Free School District in Irvington, New York, where he proudly served as middle school principal for 27 years. During those years, he touched countless lives, guiding students, supporting teachers, and building lasting relationships with families and colleagues. A passionate advocate for the arts, he played an instrumental role in establishing an extensive music program, believing that creativity and artistic expression were essential to a well-rounded education. His influence extended far beyond the school walls, leaving a lasting impression on generations of students and educators.

A man of deep faith, Andrew was a member of Holy Name of Jesus Catholic Church in Indialantic, Florida. He found happiness in life’s simple pleasures: time with family, the company of good friends, a beautiful morning on the golf course, and a good laugh. An exceptional golfer, he especially cherished his early mornings at Spessard Holland Golf Course, where he enjoyed the camaraderie, friendships, and friendly competition of the Men’s Golf League.

Andrew also had a special place in his heart for animals, particularly his four beloved granddogs. His compassion, generosity, and gentle spirit extended to all living things, reflecting the kindness he shared so freely with everyone he encountered.

Those fortunate enough to know Andrew will remember his warm smile, quick wit, uplifting spirit, unmistakable baritone voice, and legendary belly laugh. He had a gift for making people feel welcome and could strike up a conversation with anyone. He brought laughter into ordinary moments, made people feel like old friends, and left every gathering a little brighter simply by being there.

Above all, Andrew was a devoted family man. His 62-year marriage to Georgianna was a beautiful testament to enduring love, partnership, and unwavering devotion. Together, they built a life rich with meaningful traditions, extensive travels, cherished memories, and a family that was the center of their world. The love they shared will continue to live on through their children, grandchildren, and the generations that follow.

Andrew will be deeply missed by his family, friends, former colleagues, students, and all whose lives he touched. Though his voice may be silent, the laughter he shared, the lessons he taught, the love he gave, and the memories he created will remain with us always.
