Elizabeth “Betty” Jane Metzler, a cherished matriarch, devoted partner, and steadfast friend, died peacefully at her home in Satellite Beach, Florida, on April 6, 2026, surrounded by her loving family. Born in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, on September 27, 1933, she was the beloved daughter of Harriett Evelyn Modrynski and Raymond Paul Goessner. Her life was marked by resilience and grace, with an unwavering love for her family and community.

On October 23, 1954, Elizabeth wed her beloved husband, Robert. Their thirty-nine-year marriage was blessed with eleven children Robert  W. Metzler Jr. (Angela), Stewart (Barbara) Metzler, Susanna Metzler, Raymond Metzler, Sharie Metzler, Sally Hirsh, Debora  Cavino, Lynda  Metzler, Lisa Minnoe (Niles), Scott Metzler (Lori), and Patrick  Metzler (Jennifer), twenty grandchildren, and fourteen great grandchildren, a living testament to her enduring love and influence. She is also survived by her sister Donna Wendorf, and several nieces and nephews.

Elizabeth received her Associates degree from Central City Business Institute in Syracuse, New York and worked for Syroco, Inc. in Baldwinsville, where she served in both the Human Resource and Credit departments. When her husband Robert retired, the couple moved back to Satellite Beach, Florida, where she worked part time with Brevard Vacuum & Sewing (Flametech) prior to her retirement.

Elizabeth was preceded in death by her parents Harriett and Raymond Goessner, husband Robert, her son Stewart, and her sister Nancy Haagen. As a devoted member of Immaculate Conception Church, she was active in the Women’s Guild and contributed her gifted seamstress skills creating treasured garments for the parish. She enjoyed sewing, knitting, crocheting and embroidery, creating many homemade gifts including wedding dresses that symbolized new beginnings. Known for her radiant smile, quick wit, love of crossword puzzles, and champion level SkipBo skills, she brought compassion, warmth and kindness to everyone she met.

A viewing will take place at Beach Funeral Home, 1689 S.Patrick Drive, Indian Harbor Beach, Florida, on April 15, 2026 from 4:00 p.m. to 7 :00 p.m. On Thursday, April 16, 2026, a viewing will begin at 10:30 am at Immaculate Conception Church on 3780 S. Highway A1A, Melbourne Beach, Florida, followed by a memorial mass at 11:00 a.m. Immediately after the mass, the final prayer and burial will take place at Florida Memorial Gardens, 5950 US1, Rockledge, Florida.

A Celebration of Life will be heldfrom 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. at The Tides Collocated Club, 1001 North HWY A1A, S Atlantic Ave, Patrick Space Force Base, Florida.Family, and friends whose life she touched are welcome to join and honor her remarkable life and legacy. The Metzler family extends heartfelt thanks to the staff at Sea Pines Rehabilitation Hospital and Vitas Home Healthcare for their compassionate care during Elizabeth’s final days.

Elizabeth Jane Metzler’s life was a symphony of love, devotion, and grace. She will be profoundly missed and forever cherished in the hearts of all who knew her.  In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Immaculate Conception Church or a charity of the donor’s choosing in honor of Elizabeth’s memory, continuing her spirit of generosity.
