Gwendolyn Elizabeth Costello 1942-2026

It is with deep sorrow and loving remembrance that we announce the passing of our beloved mother, who left us on February 28, 2026, in Melbourne, Florida, at the age of 83.

Gwen was born in Norwood, NY, and spent many years in the Massena and Syracuse areas. For those familiar with the weather in those locales, it came as no surprise when she relocated to the beach in Florida and never looked back.

As with all she did in life, Gwen didn’t just walk into a room, she audaciously entered and enchanted all present with her beauty, style, and devil-may-care attitude. She lived a full and vibrant life marked by passion, determination, and an adventurous spirit. She was a race car driver; a trailblazer who embraced speed and competition with confidence and fearlessness. Beyond the track, her fierce determination, tenacity, and acumen helped her build a successful career as a real estate professional.

She loved her three children, John Michael (Mike), Romaine (Rene, pronounced “rainy”), and Davey (her daughter), only a bit more than she enjoyed the confusion she caused with their names. She was proud grandmother to David and River, who, in her eyes, could do no wrong. Gwen is predeceased by her mother and stepfather, Edna and Herbie Anslow.

She was an absolute legend and, in the eyes of all who knew her, eternal. She was the life of every party and telling tales of wild adventures brought her, and all of us, endless joy. Her sister, Teri, can vouch for the former and her niece, Edina, the latter.

She will be profoundly missed and forever remembered.
