James Dave Hurley
Apr 19, 1929 — Oct 28, 2026
James D. Hurley, known to all as a man who loved his family fiercely and was always the life of the party, passed away peacefully in Melbourne Beach, Florida on October 28, 2026, at the remarkable age of 97.
Born in St. Louis, Missouri, Jim lived a life defined by dedication, hard work, and a vibrant joy for living. He proudly served his country in the United States Navy during the Korean War, a formative time that shaped his strong character. Following his service, Jim embarked on a highly successful, decades-long career with the U.S. Shoe Corporation, where his natural charisma, sharp mind, and work ethic led him to the position of Vice President of Sales. Throughout his life and career, his journeys took him from St. Louis to Plantation, Florida, and Cincinnati, Ohio, before he ultimately chose the coastal peace of Melbourne Beach, Florida for his well-deserved retirement.
Jim was the cornerstone of his family, providing 66 years of unwavering love and partnership to his late wife, Patricia Hurley (Murphy). Together, they built a beautiful life and a legacy of love that will endure for generations. An avid sports fan, Jim spent his happiest days out on the golf course or cheering on his favorite football teams. But above all else, his greatest joy was his family.
Jim is survived by his three loving daughters, Christine Pietrobono and her husband Peter, Carolyn Scott, and Diane Stevens and her husband Mark. He was the proud grandfather of five surviving grandchildren, Kristen Scott and her partner Eric, Kara Schrage and her husband Scott, Marissa Pietrobono and her partner DJ, Peter Pietrobono, and Corinne Pietrobono. His legacy also lives on through his seven cherished great-grandchildren.
Jim was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Patricia; his grandson, Ronnie Scott; and his son-in-law, Ronald Scott.
His laughter, fierce love, and bright presence will be deeply missed by his family, friends, and everyone who had the pleasure of sharing a story, a laugh, or a round of golf with him.
