Leonard Ronald Daley

Leonard Ronald "Ron" Daley, 82, went peacefully into the arms of his Savior Tuesday, December 17, 2019. Ron was born May 27, 1937 in Lakewood, OH to Frances Hazel (Leatherbury) Daley and Leonard Joseph Daley. He leaves his wife, Joyce (Dixon) Daley; children, Scott Ronald (Susan) Daley and Laura Lee (Michael) Brown; brothers, Richard (Diane) Daley and Roy (Rosann) Daley; sister in law, Judi (John) D'Amico; grandchildren, Jennifer (Eric) Johannisson and Melissa (Michael) Belman; great grandchildren, Abigail and Lucas Johannisson; many nieces and nephews and extended family: Gloria (Jim) Hogan, Jan (Jacqueline Devi lee), Erja (Jussi) Himanka and Irene (Per) Nordland. In 1947, Ron's family moved from Lakewood to Jamestown, NY. He was always scholarly and earned straight A's through high school. He was in National Honor Society, a member of Brae Caddie fraternity and on the track team. As he entered his junior year of high school in1953 Ron's family moved to Mantua, OH where he played football and basketball and ran track. He was President of Student Council, in class plays, Beta club and more. He met his wife, Joyce, that year and they've been together ever since. In the summer of 1954, Ron & three friends took several weeks to drive to California and enjoyed visiting many tourist attractions. He graduated Valedictorian of his class in 1955 and proceeded to Miami University in Oxford, OH. He received several scholarships, including one from Erie Railroad where his dad worked. At Miami Ron served in the Naval Reserve Officers Training Corps (NROTC) and was President of the Navy Board of Governors. He also served as Treasurer and President of Delta Upsilon fraternity, Delta Sigma Pi, and ODK. In June 1959 he graduated from Miami, was commissioned into the Navy, and he and Joyce were married. They lived in Athens, GA where he attended Naval Supply School for 6 months. Next Long Beach, CA was home for 3 months, then on to San Diego where Scott was born. Ron was a Supply Officer on a submarine tender. In July 1961 he left the Navy and moved to Northfield, OH where he worked for Ernst & Ernst and finished 2nd in Ohio state CPA exam. In September Laura was born. In 1967 he joined his uncle's custom home construction company in Cincinnati, then in 1972 took a position as Asst. Controller of Eagle-Picher Industries. In 1979 seeking a warmer climate, he and Joyce relocated to Melbourne, FL where he served as CFO & CPO for several technology companies, including Optical Business Machines (OBM), Florida Data and Medicomp. Ron's first love was always his family. His love for and devotion to Joyce was apparent to all. He enjoyed hosting exchange students and treated each one as his own son or daughter. When his mother's Alzheimer disease worsened Ron moved her into their home and cared for her for 3 years. He said many times that this was his privilege and joy to care for her. Ron dearly loved his Yorkie, Major, and treated him like royalty. He was very active in Trinity Wellsprings Church (TWC) for over 40 years, serving as an Elder, Sunday School teacher, Life Group Leader and wherever else he was needed. He was very dedicated to the Indian River Via de Christo ministries in Brevard County. After he retired, he continued to serve several Trinity members as a financial adviser. In 2014 Ron's progressing dementia demanded a more supportive place to live, they moved to Discovery Village (aka Sonata) where they made many good friends and were well cared for.
