Marlene R. Shelley (77) of Indialantic, FL, passed away on December 2, 2010 at Avante Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Melbourne, FL. Marlene was born March 29, 1933 in Jersey City, NJ to Walter and Maude Hyer. For a short period, she lived in Rhode Island and California before moving back to New Jersey and eventually settling in Fort Lee. Marlene and her husband of 43 years, Sheridan Lee Shelley retired to Indialantic in 1993. Marlene served as a commissioner on the Fort Lee, NJ, Parking Authority and was a member of Satellite Beach, FL Lions Club. She was always active in local politics and once ran for mayor of Indialantic.
Marlene was preceded in death by her parents and daughter, Laura Shelley. She is survived by her husband and by four children, Kenneth Thomas of Teaneck, NJ, Claudia Thomas of Helena, MT, Amanda Taylor of Covington, GA and Sheridan Shelley, Jr of Melbourne, FL. She is also survived by her sister, Connie Ranft and four grandchildren; Michael Hand, Rachel Synness, Kristopher Thomas and Kayla Thomas, as well as two great grandchildren. In addition, she is survived by her beloved corgi, Zoe.
Visitation will be held on Monday, December 6, from 5:00 - 7:00 p.m., at Beach Funeral Home at 1689 S. Patrick Dr., Indian Harbour Beach, FL.
