Thomas P. Salat (Tom) of Melbourne, Florida passed away on Tuesday, June 15, 2010. Tom is survived by his wife, Melissa; daughter, Marla; mother, Eleanore Brown of Melbourne; sisters, Barbara Ippolito of Melbourne and Rosemary (Gary) Kruger of Ocala; and brother, Robert (Sydney) of Ocala. He enjoyed a tremendous career in aviation which began as a U.S. Army Medevac helicopter pilot in Fort Bragg, NC. After his service he enjoyed a 25 year career in corporate aviation in New York City including several years with CBS. In addition to his corporate aviation duties at CBS he was also well known for his airborne traffic and news reports on WCBS Radio. He held an Airline Transport Pilot Rating with over 12,000 accident free fixed wing and helicopter hours. He served on numerous system safety and efficiency reviews under the FAA. Most recently he served for the Satellite Navigation Program Office of the FAA as a member of the WAAS National Airspace Implementation team. He had a love for family, life and a passion for his career. A celebration of his life will be held at Beach Funeral Home in Melbourne, Florida, Saturday, June 19, 2010 at 11 a.m. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Moffitt Cancer Center Foundation, 12902 Magnolia Drive, UTC-FOUND, Tampa, FL. 33612 or online at http:\\www.moffitt.org/giving.
