Kenneth Oscar Bonin

Jan 3, 1938 — Sep 22, 2026

Kenneth Oscar Bonin, born January 3, 1938, passed away peacefully on September 22, 2026, in Melbourne, Florida at the age of 88. He was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and friend whose life was centered around his family, his career, and the friendships he valued throughout his life.

Ken was born and raised in Detroit, Michigan. He attended Wayne State University, where he earned both his bachelor’s and master’s degrees in Civil Engineering. He went on to have a long and accomplished career as a civil engineer, working for both Wayne and Macomb Counties and ultimately serving as Chief Engineer for Macomb County.

In 1970, Ken married his wife, Judy, and they moved to the Detroit suburbs, where they raised their two daughters, Jennifer and Stephanie, and built a life together. Ken was a devoted husband and father and later a proud grandfather to Darius, Arman, Amelia, and Lorelei.

Ken had a warm and easygoing nature and a calm presence that put people at ease. He loved to tell jokes and stories and was always ready to share one with family, friends, or anyone willing to listen. He will be fondly remembered for his sense of humor and gift for storytelling.

Outside of work, Ken enjoyed playing poker, watching sports, and fishing, whether from his own boat, which he fondly named “Judy’s Joy,” or while on vacation. Ken and Judy also shared a love of travel. Over the years, their travels took them abroad, on many cruises, to national parks across the country, and on trips to visit their daughters and families. But one of his greatest pleasures was dancing with Judy. Throughout their many years together, they shared a love of dancing, travel, and spending time with family and friends.

In 2005, Ken and Judy moved to Florida, beginning a new chapter in their lives. They developed many wonderful friendships within their community and enjoyed the years they spent there together.

Ken will be remembered for his warmth, his calm and steady nature, his stories and sense of humor, and most of all for his devotion to Judy and his family.
