Nancy Ann (Sopko) Kachenmeister

May 9, 1951 — Jul 19, 2026

Nancy Ann (Sopko) Kachenmeister, beloved wife of more than 51 years to John Kachenmeister, passed away peacefully on the afternoon of Sunday July 19th at the age of 75, following a long battle with dementia and other illnesses. She entered her heavenly home without pain, passing peacefully in her sleep while in the compassionate care of a dedicated nurse from St. Francis Hospice.

Nancy proudly served as a Sergeant with the Berkey, Ohio Police Department and as a Communications Technician with the Toledo Police Department. Throughout her career, she also worked for Blue Cross/Blue Shield of Ohio, Riverside Hospital, and the Hillcrest Hotel in Toledo. She attended Cardinal Stritch High School in Oregon, Ohio, St. Clare Academy, and Lourdes College in Sylvania, Ohio. In 2003, she and her husband retired to Florida to enjoy the next chapter of their lives together.

Nancy found great joy in her beloved pets, domestic crafts, and opening her home to family and friends for countless gatherings and celebrations. During the final weeks of her life, she found comfort and friendship through the American Legion Auxiliary at American Legion Post 394 in Palm Bay, Florida, where she was a proud member.

Nancy is lovingly survived by her husband, John Kachenmeister; her son, Jason (Jill) Kachenmeister of Tecumseh, Michigan; her daughter, Melissa (Kevin) Baines of Melbourne, Florida; her granddaughters, Bailey (Jonathan) Hooper of Quantico, Virginia, Hannah Kachenmeister of Toledo, Ohio, and Amelia Kachenmeister of Tecumseh, Michigan; and her cherished great-grandson, Conrad Hooper, of Quantico, Virginia. She also leaves behind her faithful dogs, Foster and Dixie, and her beloved cat, Cameron, who will surely miss her gentle presence.

Funeral Service will be held at the funeral home on Wednesday August 5th from 10:30 to 11:30. Floral tributes are welcome. Burial will follow that afternoon at Cape Canaveral National Cemetery in Mims from 1:00 p.m. to 1:30 p.m. (address listed below).
