Richard Ernest Lovisone

Richard Ernest Lovisone of Melbourne, Florida, passed peacefully into the arms of our Heavenly Father on August 13, 2026, at the age of 84. Known affectionately to most as Dick or simply Lovi, he was a man whose presence filled every room with warmth, humor, and unwavering devotion to family, faith, and service.

Born in Hartford, Connecticut, Lovi was raised in West Hartford and graduated from Conard High School. He went on to attend Norwich University in Northfield, Vermont, where he proudly played center on the football team. His love for Norwich University remained steadfast throughout his life.

Lovi married Marilyn Smith, and together they raised four children. He built a distinguished career in the United States Army, serving his country with honor and pride. His service included a combat tour with the 25th Infantry Division in Vietnam, an experience that shaped his deep commitment to leadership, mentorship, and duty. After returning from Vietnam, he continued to serve as an instructor for future Army officers, influencing countless young leaders.

Following his retirement in 1988, Lovi continued his dedication to the military community as a contractor with the Army Battle Command Training Program and later with Northrop Grumman, where he remained devoted to training and preparing soldiers.

In the mid-1990s, Lovi married Dorothy Stewart in Jackson, Mississippi. Their love was unconditional, joyful, and enduring. They remained devoted to one another until the day he passed. Eventually, they made their home in Orlando, Florida — a place filled with laughter, visits from family, and countless cherished memories.

Lovi fiercely loved his family. He is survived by his beloved wife Dottie Lovisone; his children Rick Lovisone (Amy), Beth Lovisone (Gresh), Laura Lovisone, and Chris Lovisone; his stepdaughters Tricia Bores (DJ) and Elizabeth Anderson (Mark); and Marilyn, mother of Rick, Beth, Laura, and Chris. He is also survived by 14 grandchildren, 6 great-grandchildren, and 2 more on the way, each of whom brought him immeasurable joy.

A man of deep faith, Lovi was an active member of every church he belonged to, often serving on multiple committees. Every morning, without fail, he could be found with a cup of coffee, reading his devotional and the Bible — a quiet ritual that grounded his days.

Lovi believed wholeheartedly in giving back. He was instrumental in founding as well as the success of Family Promise of Brevard, an organization that has served more than 23,000 families in need. The organization is now known as Family Promise of Space Coast. His commitment to service extended far beyond his military career and touched countless lives in his community.

There will be a celebration of life on October 10, 2026, at Indian River Colony Club at 1936 Freedom Dr., Melbourne, FL 32940, from 3:00 to 5:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to Family Promise of Space Coast, continuing Lovi’s legacy of compassion and service.
