Archie Joseph Dahl

Archie Joseph Dahl died at the age of 97 on Sunday, January 5, 2014 at Swedish Hospital in Edmonds, WA. Archie was born on May 29, 1916 to the late Edward and Ruth (nee Jensen) Dahl in Storlie, North Dakota. Archie was the loving husband of Margaret (nee Walter) Dahl of 74 years, who preceded him in death in 2013. He was a loving father of 4 children, 11 grandchildren and 18 great grandchildren. Archie was preceded in death by his 14 siblings: Clara, Tina, Stella, Edna, Agnus, Julius, Elmer, Fred, Leonard, Walter, Victor, Byron, Morris and Ruben. Archie is survived by his loving family: daughters: Patty (Mike) Dahl Palmer of Edmonds, WA; Susan (Bob) Dahl Cram of Edmonds, WA; sons: Mike (Jeannie) Dahl of Olympia, WA; Jeff (Candi) Dahl of Yakima, WA; and his 11 grandchildren: Lisa (Greg) Loomis, Lorie (Todd) Cliggott, Leann (Darren) Watts, Jeffery (Leah) Dahl, Anna (Chris) Jackson, Thomas Dahl, Brandon Dahl, Shayla (Mike) Hemphill, Josh (Alison) Cram, Angie Cram, and Kaylee Cram; and 18 great grandchildren. Archie was a truck driver for Snyders Bakery. Over his 35 years at Snyders he covered routes throughout most of Eastern Washington. Archie coached basketball, baseball and softball; and was the Little League Coach of the Year. He was always a great fan of his grandchildren and supported them in all of their athletic and other activities. He was always glad to be the team Chaplin; leading them in prayer at games and tournaments. Archies faith was paramount in his life. He and Margaret started and led a bible study at the Yakima Senior Center. He simply was never afraid to share the gospel or his faith in Jesus Christ with othersanywhere. He and Margaret purchased property in the Gleed area in 1975 and built their dream house on farm land. He had a love of the farm and a desire to expose the grandchildren to all of the fun and learning that a farm had to offer. He was like a counselor at summer camp. Archie taught his kids to pick vegetables from the field, ride a dirt bike, lawn mower, tractor and horses. There was also target shooting with BB guns and sometimes pistols or shotguns. The grandchildren experienced a lot that most kids might not get to experience. Archies father, Edward Dahl donated the first silver dollar for starting the Union Gospel Mission in Yakima in 1936. Archie enjoyed carrying on the ministry at the Union Gospel Mission by playing his harmonica. He and his son, Jeff, and great grandson, Myles, would share their faith at the mission. Archie was an avid Seahawk fan, and in his blindness he has been a staunch supporter of the Seahawks by listing to every game on the radio. Recently Archie moved from Yakima to the Edmonds area to be closer to his daughters. He lived in a wonderful adult family home. We are so grateful for the warm loving care he received there. Archies favorite sayings were: Keep a lookin up, Listen for the shout, and Ill keep the light on for you. A Celebration of Archies life will be held on Saturday, January 18, at 11:00 a.m. at the Aurora Nazarene Church, 1900 N 175 th Street, Shoreline, WA.
