Barbara Ellen Grimes

color:#222222Barbara (Barb) Grimes passed away Friday, June 16, 2017, at the age of 50, from complications of cancer. color:#222222Barb was born in 1966, in Anderson, Indiana. She graduated from Madison Heights High School and attended the ITT Technical Institute in Indianapolis. While living in Indiana, she worked as a manager at an auto parts store, painted cars, worked as an electronics repair technician, and studied martial arts. A creative and talented artist, she made beautiful needlepoint pictures, as well as intricate metal trees that she sold at craft fairs. She moved to Everett, Washington with David Grimes in 1998, and was married to him in 2002. Their son, Justin, was born in 2003. She earned two Bachelor of Science degrees from the University of Washington, one in Biochemistry, and another in Molecular and Cell Biology. She was most recently employed at the Institute for Systems Biology in Seattle, a position she wholly loved and enjoyed. She spent her free time gardening at home and, as a member of the Master Gardeners, helping to maintain the gardens at McCollum Park in Everett. She was also passionate about decorating elaborate cakes for weddings and special occasions. She provided a loving home for her husband and son, and was extraordinarily generous with friends, relatives and work, always helping when needed. She was loved greatly and will be sorely missed by those who knew her. color:#222222Barb is survived by her son, Justin, and her husband, Dave Grimes; her sisters Linda Boring and Susan Cunningham; her nephews Ryan Gwaltney, Brandon and Jordan Kaufman, and Evan Pottier; and her nieces Nicole Gill and Danielle Southerland. She is preceded in death by her parents, Charles Cunningham and Nora Goodwin, and by her brother, James Hall. color:#222222There will be a viewing at Becks Tribute Center in Edmonds on Tuesday, June 20, from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m.
