Brendon Dexter Mccallum

Raised in Edmonds and blessed with enormous energy, Brendons active life started early as a swimmer and diver on Edmonds-Woodway High School teams. He was a ski instructor and tri-athlete. A period in Park City, Utah saw him working as weatherman and morning show host on Park City Television, High Altitude Entertainment while continuing to serve as a ski instructor. His television work eventually led him to work with ESPN on their coverage of the 2002 Winter Olympics at Salt Lake City. While in Utah he enrolled in the University of Utah in the school of communications. A lover of pop music and sports, Brendon returned to Seattle via Las Vegas and immediately went into the high-energy events business launching his own company, Word of Mouth Events. He pioneered the Winterball formal event and worked with Varsity Events and Sound Unlimited. In the course of his work in the music and events field he became well known in the industry as an innovator. A tragic diving accident in 2007 left Brendon a quadriplegic. As a testament to Brendons wide circle of friends, the day doctors at Harborview Hospital informed Brendon he would never walk again, 103 people were on hand at the hospital to encourage and support him. Among those present were the entire cheerleading teams for the Seahawks and University of Washington Huskies. As quadriplegic, Brendon continued an active life an avid Sounders FC and Seahawks fan; he attended games regularly. He camped, attended music events, and even sailed actively with the special needs foundation, Footloose, but did frequently say how much he missed riding his beloved Kawasaki motorcycle! Brendon was known as an inspirational speaker on the topic of spinal cord injuries; wrote a regular inspirational newsletter; and launched an inspirational podcast: Insignia Radio. As many friends attested, Despite his challenging circumstances, Brendon had a smile on his face. He was an inspiration to many. Active in Young Life as a student, Brendon had a long relationship with Westgate Chapel in Edmonds. He is survived by his mother, Marni Muir; her husband, Phill Butler; his brother, David Carnahan and his wife Alise; and children Jaden, Josiah, Justice, and Love Lei, along with an aunt, uncle, and numerous nieces and nephews.
