Carlie Lee Schultz

November 18, 1934 — April 22, 2026

Carlie Lee Schultz, 91, passed away on April 22, 2026, on his mother Caroline’s heavenly birthday with his loving children, Kevin and Kim, by his side.

Carlie was born on November 18, 1934, in Fargo, North Dakota, to Caroline (Zick) Schultz and Carl Schultz. He married Joann Marie (Johnson) Schultz on June 22, 1958, in Embden, North Dakota, where the two first met as young children. Together, they built a life centered on faith, love, family, and service, sharing 63 years of marriage.

Carlie served in the U.S. Army from 1958 to 1960 and was stationed at Fort Ord and in Fairbanks while Joann completed her dietetics internship in Seattle. In 1960, Carlie began his career with Boeing. He took great pride in his work and achieved an extraordinary 30-year perfect attendance record, never missing a day due to illness.

In 1994, Carlie took early retirement at the age of 59, though he never truly stopped working. He remained constantly busy helping family and friends and looked forward each year to returning to North Dakota to assist on the family farm. He continued this tradition for 20 years, always treasuring time spent with his North Dakota family.

Above all, Carlie loved his family—especially his role as a grandfather to James Thomas, Jaimeson Elizabeth, David Andrew, Eric Lee, and Garret Joseph. He was immensely proud of their accomplishments and rarely missed a sporting event, no matter the cold Pacific Northwest weather. He and Joann also faithfully attended their grandchildren’s music performances throughout the years.

Carlie enjoyed many hobbies, including gardening, boating, fishing, camping, and working on cars. There was little he couldn’t fix or build himself. He approached every project with patience and persistence and generously shared his knowledge with his children and grandchildren.

Carlie and Joann were known for their kindness, reliability, and willingness to help others. They were often the first to arrive when someone needed support. Carlie was deeply devoted to his family and was a loving and dedicated caregiver to Joann until her passing in October 2021.

Carlie is lovingly survived by his son, Kevin (Patty); daughter, Kim (Joe); grandchildren, James Thomas, Jaimeson Elizabeth, David Andrew, Eric Lee, and Garret Joseph; sister-in-law, Eileen; brothers, Stan (Bev), Bob (Deb), and Dan; sister-in-law, Suzon (Roger) Ellenson; and many cousins, nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews.

He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Joann; his parents, Carl and Caroline Schultz; his sister-in-law, Bonnie; his brother-in-law, Warren and his brother, Lyle.

Carlie is laid to rest with Joann at Holyrood Cemetery in Shoreline, Washington. Reunited with his beloved Joann, Carlie now rests in God’s eternal care. His steady love, quiet strength, and faithful heart will live on in the family he cherished so deeply.

Whether with a simple “ho hum” or his familiar “a guy could…” as he set out to fix just about anything, Carlie’s gentle humor and can-do spirit will be fondly remembered by all who knew and loved him.

In lieu of flowers, the family kindly suggests donations to a charity of your choice in Carlie’s memory.

“Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life, and I shall dwell in the house of the Lord forever.”— Psalm 23:6
