Chi Do

Oct 9, 1919 — Jan 21, 2017

Chi Do was born October 9th, 1919 in the city of Cheng Hai, in the Guangdong Province of China. She was the oldest of two, having only a younger brother. On January 11th, 1939, at the young age of 19, she fled the communist country China and traveled alone by ship to meet her betrothed in Saigon Vietnam. She settled there with her husband, Duc Tuoc Hua and went on to give birth to 8 children. A devote Buddhist, she raised all 8 children by herself while working odd jobs at home to help earn extra income for the family, while her husband was busy at work. She and her husband left Vietnam on February 22nd, 1984 and traveled to Canada where they lived until January 13th, 1985. They arrived in the US on January 14th, 1985 where they lived several years with her 2nd oldest daughter Lan. When her husband passed on October 7th 1993, Chi then moved in with her granddaughter, Jenny, to help raise Jennys oldest daughter. Chi was always so full of love and compassion for all. From the time she left China to the day she passed, she had kept a journal detailing all the events in her life to express all the joy as well as pain she experienced. She documented any and all life changing events, big or small, that pertained to anyone in the family. Her journal gave us a glimpse into how much she truly loved and cared for her 3 sons, 5 daughters, 14 grandchildren, and 13 great grandchildren. Each one of her descendants have made such a profound impact on her life, perhaps thats why she lived for as long as she had. She truly leaves behind a legacy we can only hope to continue to keep alive.
