Daniel Patrick Tierney

Daniel Patrick Tierney, 69 passed away on July 2nd, 2020 in Edmonds, Wa. while recovering from 2 strokes. Dan was a man who loved with all his heart; he loved his family more than anything else in the world. He loved Montana, being outdoors, fishing, hunting, and camping. He also loved working for State Farm Insurance for 40 years, and all the numerous friendships he made throughout his journey. Dan was born in Butte, Mt. on July 13th, 1950 to Gene and Lorraine Tierney His growing up years were full of love, laughter, large family gatherings, camping and fishing trips. Dan attended St. Ann's grade school and Boy's Central High School. He was involved in most sports with Basketball and Baseball being his favorites. He played Basketball at Boy's Central and was the Student Body President his Senior year. In 1967, Dan stole Joy White's heart. In 1971, Dan and Joy were married and began their life together. In 1977, Dan began his career with State Farm Insurance in Billings, Mt. He was a mentor to many and earned numerous honors. However, the friendships he made meant the most to him. Dan was a natural leader, and earned the trust and respect of those around him. He was loyal, proud, independent and truly a self made man. Dan retired in 2017. Dan was a people person! He had a big personality that could light up any room, a sense of humor that we all adored, and a big giving heart. He had a positive impact on many people he worked with, who he socialized with, and most of all on his family. His hunting trips to Montana every year were a highlight for him, and especially this year when his 3 Grandsons, 2 son's, brother, and nephews were with him in the Boulder Valley. Dan enjoyed watching his favorite sports teams, OSU Beavers, and Gonzaga basketball, and of course the Seahawks. Dan left this world too soon. The two strokes he had in May took the wind from his sails. He had a long road of healing that in the end, proved to be too much. He's now found peace in Heaven, with his mom, dad and others he loves dearly. We will miss him everyday and are grateful that he is out of pain and suffering. Dan is survived by his wife of 49 years, Joy; children, Robert (Aimee), Bloomington, Ill.; Matt, Buhl, Idaho; Lisa, Bend, Or.; 3 Grand Lads; Logan, Dillon and Griffin; Brothers; Joe (Fran); Tim (Lee Anne); Sisters; Colleen (Brian); Gale (Bill); Aunt Connie DeYott, and numerous cousins, nieces and nephews. Dan's Memorial service will be held at St. Ann's Church, Butte, Mt. on Sat., Aug.29th at 10:00 a.m. with the burial of his ashes to follow at Holy Cross cemetery. Depending on the status of COVID in the area - we will plan to have a lunch following the burial at a place to be determined.
